The Experience

Hi, I'm Ismael, and I'm opening a community centre for holistic retreats and events. I need help with maintenance, minor renovations, and refurbishing some areas of the farmhouse, as well as maintaining the pool. I also have a section of land with fruit trees that needs harvesting and clearing, as well as help with the vegetable garden I'm planning to start soon. Help with the chickens would also be great. Are you up for it?

My experience was incredible! It was so much more than volunteering . I learned new ways of seeing life, of seeing myself with more awareness. I was enchanted by the simplicity of life in the countryside and I truly felt that the exchange was genuine. Ismael is a bright soul! The work requires dedication, but he is kind and always willing to teach with calmness and patience. I loved being part of such a beautiful project, full of heart and potential!

This was a great experience for me! The house is very comfy and the food is amazing. As I was looking for a very calm place, that didn't always happen during a period with guests in the house. They were lovely - that wasn't the problem - just a mismatch with expectations. Transportation isn't very easy if you want to go out every day, but for occasional trips on days off, walking or taxis work fine. Tasks vary, and some can be physically demanding, but Ismael is always open to feedback and adjustments. I recommend it for those looking to rest and immerse themselves in Spanish culture!

As my first experience, it was interesting to observe the dynamics between host and volunteer. However, the location is quite remote, with no easy means of transportation. Since my goal was to learn about the local culture and practice Spanish, the circumstances made it challenging. That said, if you're seeking a countryside retreat, the place is ideal. Just note: if you're a guy, be prepared for physical outdoor work under the sun. The project has great potential, and I hope it evolves into the peaceful place it aims to be. Wishing all the best, and thank you for the opportunity!

I appreciate your feedback and will do my best to improve in every possible way. That's why I bought two bicycles right when you arrived. However, it's important to keep in mind that, since this is a country house located 5 km from Motril, you can’t expect the same services as in the city.

The tasks are very diverse, and once the priority ones are completed, others will come up. They won’t always be outdoors or under the sun.

I wish you all the best.

Staying with Ismael was a very comfortable experience. He's a good host making sure I had quality food and housing. If you are looking for a place to be in peace and calm this is the perfect place, the house is silent and has a great energy. There is no transportation, so if you are looking to go around, sightsee etc its not recommended. Although when he is in the mood and has no guests, on weekends you might be able to visit a nearby beach or cool spot, depends on what he wants to do.
