The Experience

We are a animal friendly community engaged with farming, fruit growing and forestry. My agro-partner Leonora, Sara and Alex joined me in 2023. Our animal companions on the farm are cats and dog Art. We are almost in the centre of sLOVEnia, near Litija. We should soon become selfsustaining because we have two springs of water, 12 ha of forest, a lot of healthy fertile land. We have also a big green house.

Robin's farm is a rural but really beautiful place that I've got to enjoy during the project picking season. It was a different kind of physical labour, so some experience in farming would have definitely helped in that area. Unfortunately we had little to no interactions with the other people on the farm but Robin himself is a sweet guy, who picked us up and provided us with our own private room and good vegan food prepared by him. At times we had some complications with his instructions and organization in general but I am still glad to have had this experience on Robin's farm.

Robin was a very nice host, who was caring& kind. He picked us up in Ljubljana& instantly settled us in well. The farm is pretty, but very rural. Getting around w/a car is hard, since it's on a very steep hill& the next small city Litija would be a 2h walk. Regarding the work, we always stayed in between the 5-6 hours&it was manageable work, but I would recommend some experience in farming, since tasks are easier to manage then. Tasks included raking, weeding, organising, cleaning& ofc picking blueberries. All in all, it was definitely a farm experience that's nice to have been made!

My time with Robin was interesting. I decided to leave the experience early for a few reasons but mostly there was a lack of communication and I didn't feel listened to. This meant I never knew what the plan was and I couldn't organise my own time and enjoy myself as much as I would have liked. But is a beautiful place and there were enjoyable and interesting parts to my experience.

I was excited to join this project and learn new skills, but the experience was disappointing. The place was disorganized, unhygienic, and emotionally unsafe. Rubin was aggressive, gave no guidance, and showed no real interest in the volunteers only in getting the work done. He couldn't handle civil discussion and used violent communication. I left early, as did two other volunteers. I don't recommend this project unless serious changes are made.
