The Experience

We have a small organic farm in Dongshi, Taiwan. It is run by volunteers and deliveries are made twice a week from the farm to the Taipei Academy. This is a great opportunity for those who who are interested in or are learning Mandarin and also want a quiet natural environment for personal projects during their down time. Dongshi town is a short bus ride away but our farm provides a peaceful environment.

Volunteer in ULA was a meaningful experience for me, for the very moment that I arrived, I felt truly welcome. MiaoYan and Davidson, were always ready to help and patiently explain about Buddha's teachings. The food is amazing. Beyond that, the atmosphere is full of kindness, joy, and openness. If you're looking to learn more about Buddhism while also immersing yourself in Taiwan's culture, this is the place

My experience at ULA was really memorable. I had a very good time with the other volunteers, members of the host, and the host Myogen. I got to experience Taiwanese culture from another perspective and the food was amazing. I also got to learn a lot about Buddhism. I stayed one week at the farm which I enjoyed as well. I do recommend this experience and encourage future volunteers to be there to learn rather to just have a place to eat and sleep as it is with other worldpacker experiences. This was a unique immersive experience I will always cherish.

I am eternally grateful for the chance of experiencing farm life at Shizai Organic Farm. The days I have spent there were nothing short of productive with how hard-working Mr. and Mrs. Hsu have been – seeing them tirelessly work, gave us younger volunteers quite the competitive spirit. Spending a week each at the farm and at ULA – I was amazed at how they were able to make these vegetarian dishes so flavorsome, and without the usual aromatics that come from onions and garlic, mind you! The blurry road to vegetarianism seemed to be clearing up. It might be hard, but I think I'll get there soon.

I couldn't have been more grateful for this experience, i even cried at the final dinner. Not only do you get to meet the most beautiful people, they embrace you and welcome you in their community. Im still sentimental about it. I hope one day i can come back. Thank you for the wisdom and friendship.
