The Experience

We have a small organic farm in Dongshi, Taiwan. It is run by volunteers and deliveries are made twice a week from the farm to the Taipei Academy. This is a great opportunity for those who who are interested in or are learning Mandarin and also want a quiet natural environment for personal projects during their down time. Dongshi town is a short bus ride away but our farm provides a peaceful environment.

Without sounding too sappy or cliche, my time at ULA was life changing. It changed my perspective on what Buddhism is, introduced me to new concepts, and showed me what community really means. The people are all incredibly welcoming and curious about your own story and experience at the host. The work expectations are very clear and schedule is flexible if needed, and you have the opportunity to attend classes and contribute your own ideas and projects. Plus, Siti, Shigu, and Hsiao Qing all cook amazing vegetarian food! I'm so happy to have learned here & can't wait to visit in the future!

Thank you Daniella! Staff and volunteers were happy to have you here and wishing you the best on all your future travels and learning. We all hope you can bring something of your experience or personal here with ULA and in Taiwan with others back home. If you ever visit Taiwan again pelase stop by!

I had a lovely 3 weeks at ULA, with the first weekend at the Dongshi Farm and the rest at the Taipei the host. Work included cleaning of spaces, picking vegetables, translation of educational materials; studying also counts too! I recommend joining the morning meditation as it's a peaceful start to each day. Be sure to read the document provided by Myogen as it contains all you need to know. Myogen and team encouraged us to ask questions when in doubt and were open to discussions. The ULA community truly encourages learning and thinking, and I'm grateful for the meaningful experience :)

I've spent three weeks at the farm and one week at ULA. They were both unique experiences and I can only reccomend them. If you need a place for silence and reflection, the farm is the perfect place. Don't underestimate this experience if you're not prepare to face some loneliness, if there are no others volunteers you'll be alone most of the time. But don't worry, Mr. and Mrs. Xu are very kind people. At ULA, I've found a really nice environment, but you'll have to be proactive to really live the experience (try meditation 😊). I'm truly grateful for this month and the people I've met 🙏🏻

Beautiful opportunity for a calm approach to the culture. You'll be working amongst the locals and have a lot of opportunities to learn! Good facilities, the kindest people and a lot of flexibility so you can pursue what you are interested in. Overall love the concept of this organization and am very grateful for this chance to gain some insight. They are genuinely doing good things.

Volunteer in ULA was a meaningful experience for me, for the very moment that I arrived, I felt truly welcome. MiaoYan and Davidson, were always ready to help and patiently explain about Buddha's teachings. The food is amazing. Beyond that, the atmosphere is full of kindness, joy, and openness. If you're looking to learn more about Buddhism while also immersing yourself in Taiwan's culture, this is the place
