ACOTPRO was my first volunteering position and I really enjoyed my time there. We released baby turtles almost on a daily base, which was an unforgettable experience. Johnson, who organizes everything is super nice and very welcoming as are all the others who are involved in the project. I don't really speak any spanish but still managed to communicate and have fun with them. The amount of work was not too much and one of the best things was definitely to meet all the other volunteers but also the secluded location and the basically private beach right in front of the camp.

We made wonderful and unique memories forever! We stayed for a week at & loved the whole experience. The location is off the grid and a true paradise, right on the Beach. While having Breakfast we could watch the monkeys , parrots, etc. and in the trees. They have two chefs and the food tastes excellent! (3 meals daily +fresh Coconut in between ;))The work is some hours in the morning 3-4, mostly gardening, Beach-clean-up or art projects. During the day looking out for the babyturtles and release them into the sea and nightpatrol. (DREAM) Weird was we had to pay more than others. (26$/d)

Can't recommend this experience enough , volunteering here for 2 weeks I saw every stage of the turtle hatching process ; from the eggs being laid to realising the tortugitas on the beach . The work in the day is also very easy , and the project was also kind enough to let me paint a mural there as part of my job . If you want to connect with genuine, like minded travellers, and live in untouched nature , I'd recommend here . 🌿🐢

This was my first time volunteering and I absolutely loved it! Johnson and everyone else who worked there were super nice, welcoming and helpful. The chores you have to do are absolutely manageable and often take less time then expected. The best part of course is the work with the turtles which was incredible and I learned so much about conservation! The place where you are staying is beautiful and directly by the beach, it is absolutely off-grid tho and rather simple (sand floors…) so be aware of that, especially when you plan your journey ( it is not easy to get there but so worth it!)

I had a great time at ACOTPRO. Releasing the baby turtles and seeing mama turtles lay eggs was truly one of the greatest experiences. I also really enjoyed that no one at the camp spoke English, so I had no other choice but practice speaking Spanish. I think it would have been helpful to know how off grid the experience was, because I found it challenging at times, especially because I was the only volunteer there for a while. The housing provided is very basic, so is the food & there is only electricity from 6-8pm. Nevertheless Johnson was a great host & I had a great time there.

I had a great experience at ACOTPRO and met amazing like-minded people. The accommodation was to be expected, rustic and basic but it was completely worth it. It would've been ideal if we had received a handout of what to bring / expect but during our stay we helped develop one for future volunteers. ACOTPRO is made up of a team of locals that volunteer their time so just be aware it's sometimes all in Spanish! Loved it :)

I really enjoyed my time with ACOTPRO, the locals and staff were friendly although there was a language barrier with some of the leaders as they only spoke Spanish but they were polite and respectful. The leaders made sure we were included when it came to actually seeing and handling baby turtles, mothering turtles and eggs and even said they would wake us if any were to hatch whilst we were asleep. I did find that some of the volunteer leaders weren't as experienced as I thought but if any problems were to arise I know they would of be sorted asap. Overall great experience and I loved it :)

I had an amazing time at ACOTPRO! Everyone is super friendly and trying their best to make it a great experience for you. I will say that if you speak some Spanish you should really try and use it to communicate with the staff. It'll make your experience a thousand times better and they are very patient with whatever level you start with. They are also very open to hearing your ideas and learning from you as well. I truly felt like my help was appreciated. I will 100% come again. :)

This was my first volunteer experience and I could not be more happy with the experience. The hosts were so friendly and treated us like family and even though I only stayed a week, I shed a tear leaving by the end. Not only did I realize the environmental impact we made, but I was so immersed in the Costa Rican culture which was my absolute favorite part. The hours were pretty short and we only worked Monday-Friday and got the weekend off. If you are ok with simple living and want an experience with the locals I recommend this 100/10, just keep in mind they speak all Spanish!
