The Experience

We have a great hostel, we need you to help us and have a nice experience with our guests. In our hostel we want to create a garden and teach the community how to recycle waste and keep common areas clean. So we need help with daily tasks, at the reception, but also with tasks that can vary, such as washing, clean terrace for example. We chose this way of working because we need help, but we love the cultural exchange this experience brings. We d

This is not for the hostel in the guest house, it is for Las Mandarinas in Chapinero. With that said, I appreciated that Jeimy was able to reschedule me to a nearby Hostel in an equally safe neighborhood. Other than that, the experience was exactly as described, probably better. Jeimy originally asked that I work 8am-11am 4 of the 7 days I was there, but I volunteered to do more because I honestly wanted to keep myself busy. Gardening and cleaning. I ended up working 8-11 for 5 of the days and about 2 hours most of the afternoons. Jeimy is a lovely person and we did some fun things together as well!

The host was very kind and welcoming. However, the accommodation was not well-maintained in terms of cleanliness. Sheets & cushion covers were not changed nor cleaned regularly (and were reused by different guests multiple times) which made it uncomfortable at times. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that volunteers were treated more as full-time staff rather than volunteers. The balance between work and benefits didn't always refer the spirit of worldpackers. I'm grateful for the experience and kindness of the host but future volunteers should be aware of this before making their decision.
