The Experience

You are helping to restore a 50 acre degraded mountain that was burnt for many years. You will be planting native endemic trees and removing invasive species in a very beautiful part of the country in order to make sure that this catchment forest/mountain is restored to its former glory to increase water discharge, support biodiversity and make the area greener. This experience was great. Deshaun, Akka and the boys felt like family by the end of the 10 days. The work is tiring, but gets easier the more you do it. You're really living in nature so prepare for all sorts of things! Definitelythe reserve once inthe reserve lifetime opportunity to learn about real impact, this project is special.

I realy loved the project, you will meet the best people, do something for the Environment and get the greatest Food in the world from Acca. heads up: bring Long sleeves and pants for the work and be prepared for a Long Bus Drive to the project. If you're Lucky Jay can pick you up. He has a lot of Knowledge to Share. As it comes to him i sadly Need to say there can be some Moments were you could feel uncomftable as a Girl. When i was there he crossed boundries of other Volunteers. That is Not a reason to Not Support the project, just wanted to Inform. I wish Future people a lot of fun.

We’re thrilled you enjoyed the forest, food, and company, sounds like paradise UNTIL your detour from forest to fiction. Irony of “boundaries crossed” is cleaning blood & wound in the leg of a girl with "FULL CONSENT" who had a serious fall later said it was inappropriate us to clean. For readers: We’re respectful, just genuinely friendly. Most of our volunteers, by a large margin, have been girls with wonderful experiences. So, bring long sleeves for the work & a short filter for the drama :)

Volunteering at the rainforest restoration project was an eye-opening and meaningful experience. I gained a much deeper understanding of the importance of the rainforest and the impact human activity has on these vital ecosystems. The work was manageable with fair hours, and it felt great to contribute to such an important cause. The team on site were some of the kindest people I've ever met—truly a reflection of Sri Lankan hospitality and warmth. The only downside was that the bathroom facilities could use some updating, but overall, it was a rewarding and memorable experience.

This place has changed me in ways I don't fully understand. Fully immersed in nature I felt what true peace really is. On arrival it was a bit confusing to get to, but once I met Jay, Deshan, Akka and the volunteers I felt welcomed and at home. The work was tiring at first, mostly as I am not used to the heat, but after a day or so you acclimatise and the feeling of making a difference even for a short period is unmatched. Thank you Jay for your kindness I look forward to returning for longer to support this project further.
