The Experience

You are helping to restore a 50 acre degraded mountain that was burnt for many years. You will be planting native endemic trees and removing invasive species in a very beautiful part of the country in order to make sure that this catchment forest/mountain is restored to its former glory to increase water discharge, support biodiversity and make the area greener. I had such a good and educational time! I learned a lot about the forest and hope so could give sometimes back to the nature!! Thank you all!

I spent over a week with Rainforest Protectors in Sri Lanka and loved the experience. Work was 3–4 hrs/day—mostly weeding and digging—just as described. Accommodation is basic but peaceful, with a mud house and daily rice & curry from Akka. Shout-out to dishan and metma too. No WiFi, but great vibes, nature, and people. Jay is super friendly and knowledgeable. Met amazing volunteers from Germany and Italy, shout-out to Silas, Calvin, Anna and Edo. Days off were spent exploring rivers and waterfalls. I learned a lot about local ecology and loved the slow pace. Highly recommend!

I was staying in the rainforest protection camp for 10 days. You can really connect with nature. The work in the site is very rewarding and time flies by. The food is amazing cooked by lovely Acca. You can also meet a lot of different travellers from all around the world.

This experience was a huge pleasure for us. We feel like we have found a little family far from home with Jay, Methma and the other volunteers. It was a real and profound exploration of the ecosystems, wildlife and culture of Sri Lanka. They always tried to help and teach us, putting their heart in everything they do. We are forever grateful for this experience and we hope to return in a couple years to see how the forest and project has grown!

My girlfriend and I have spend one week with Jayantha and his team, working on the rainforest restoration project. And…what an experience ! We really enjoyed every moment, spending time in the rainforest working on the project, removing invasive plants, and working on making a better place to live for everyone. Being part of that project it's being part of a big family. And we are really grateful of every moment that we spent with the team 😊 So, thank you very much Jayantha and the team.
