The Experience

We're a community of about 100 people (30 children included) and another 30 special needs or behavioural problems children and young people who live with us. We live in the midst of lovely woods and farmland close to the river Elbe in Northern Germany. We try to create a place where life, friendship, knowledge and nature mingle in the most beautiful way possible – you'll meet a lot of young people, tons of things to do, fun all along!

A great place for volunteering, meeting people, and practicing languages. Short-term volunteers stay in a large, spacious house. Lunch is provided, while breakfast and dinner are on your own, but the pantry is well-stocked, allowing you to prepare your own meals. Work is 6.5 hours per day, with shifts spread between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., which can be tiring due to frequent commuting throughout the day. Overall, it's a unique and rewarding experience, offering learning, new friendships, and cultural immersion.

Volunteering in Sammatz has truly been one of the most fulfilling and enriching experiences of my life! Here I had the chance to meet so many people from all around the world, practice languages, try out different jobs and feeling part of a very welcoming community. I absolutely recommend this host to everyone who is interested in living the community life far away from the city and get involved in different activities! Thank you Sammatz❤️

It has been an excellent experience coming to Sammatz. From the moment you arrive, they welcome you in the best way. Your mentor is always attentive, making sure you don't lack anything, and the people who do the volunteer work with you are also wonderful, making your stay here very pleasant. The tasks are not complicated, and the people who give the instructions are so patient that they even make the effort to speak Spanish so you can understand what you need to do. I definitely recommend it.

Sammatz is a beautiful place to stay for people who like to work hard and fun, while having a lot of benefits in return :) This is my third time volunteering and I have never experience anything like this place. If you like to feel at home, meet new people, work in a wide variety of fields and get in touch with nature, this is your place. Also, you could be lucky enough to find long lasting connections and a second home in the other side of the world.
