The Experience

Our project is an initiative to create a space for humans to coexist with nature on a 3-acre plot of land. It starts with the restoration of degraded land, returning it to a forest once again. This will be a food forest, featuring over 300 edible plant species alongside naturally occurring trees, ensuring genetic diversity. The forest is designed to have interrelated ecological relationships.

I stayed at this the project for almost two weeks and it was a wonderful and enriching experience. I needed 1-2 days to get used to it because it is totally different to my life in Germany. I learned a lot about sustainable agriculture, the project forests and tropical plants and the Thai culture. The hosts were very kind, made vegetarian the project for me, were pretty knowledgeable and open to sharing their skills and stories and always had time for me. I enjoyed working outdoors and helping out. There is always something new to learn and observe. Thx for hosting me, I will come back again 😉

For me personally, this experience didn't meet the expectations created by the program description and schedule, as the actual conditions on site were significantly different; while I am comfortable with simple accommodation, the hygiene standards were below an acceptable level, including insects and rodents in the sleeping area, which raised concerns about my health and led me to leave after the first night. I would like to acknowledge the kindness and understanding of the local coordinator, who supported my decision and assisted me in reaching the bus station.

This place was not as described. I understand rural life, but basic cleanliness, safety, and transparency were missing. There was no real meditation guidance, the work was construction, and the living conditions were cold and dirty (including pests, mouse). the project hygiene was poor. The biggest red flag was being asked not to leave a review when we decided to leave. People deserve to know what to expect.

I had a great time here! The volunteer tasks (3-4 hours/day) change daily and you have a lot of freedom. I harvested rice, weeded gardens, planted, helped with cooking, and even helped with catering for an event at the local Buddhist temple! You get to know a lot of local people, who are all friendly and welcoming. Meditation is a big part of the experience here; you practice daily and learn the basics from a local monk (if you want to)! Isara was kind and despite being busy, really tries to make your experience good. Only downside (for me): 7 dogs and 7 cats who want to eat whatever you eat

Very nice experience overall. Net and Isara are very kind and caring, they arranged different activities for every day so it was interesting to see always something new. In addition practising meditation in the temple with the monks was a unique thing. On the top of that, it was special to live for some days in such a close community; everyone in the village was welcoming and many people offered me fruits and sweets.
