The Experience

Embark on an exciting adventure with us at our stunning 7,500-square-foot Neo-Gothic Victorian house, built in the 1890s. Nestled just a stone’s throw from the world-renowned 'Town of Books'—Hay-on-Wye and moments away from Offa's Dyke, the historic path that separates Wales and England, this is a unique opportunity to dive into a rich tapestry of history and natural beauty. Lots of gardening, some household chores plus EBay & Vinted uploads.

I found my stay at Brynmelyn to be the kind of challenge I welcome! The tasks were not too difficult, but they could be hard work and between that, the October weather in England, and the delicious dinners served to us, I left feeling stronger and heartier than when I arrived. The surrounding area is breathtaking, and I enjoyed getting to know those at the house. It's a 20 to 30 minute walk to town, but that was never an issue and the views made it enjoyable. My favorite tasks were working outside on the grounds, cutting back overgrown areas, sorting apples, and managing a burnpile.

Staying with Sarah, working with Amy and living in Hay on Wye was a wonderful experience! The town is lovely, the volenteers I was working with were great, and the hours were consistent; the tasks were varied and enjoyable. Plus I got to practice carpentry again after a few months, which was great to get back into. I'd love to come back next summer if I can and work with everyone again- this was a lovely worldpackers experience.

Beautiful setting & hours respected and cute relaxed small team vibe. Sarah is a wonderful host, witty with a great sense of humour! she makes you feel welcome and explains your tasks in clear thorough manner and gives you task options, there was a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere which I Truly enjoyed also an abundance of beautiful places to walk or read a good book. I'm grateful for this volunteer experience and would love to re visit one day, Thank you to Sarah and the whole team!
