The Experience

Accepting last minute volunteers! Our place is located 14 kilometers from Oaxaca, Mexico. We work with plants and various animals such as crocodiles, monkeys, dogs, rabbits, chickens, horses and others. It is a farm that rescues animals that are mistreated or cannot live in their natural environment. The most important job is to take care of the animals and feed them. We also have construction work on fences and rooms for the new animals.

Staying at victor hugo's farm was an absolute dream. we were welcomed so dearly by the host himself and the other volunteers, and we have really grown very closely as a big family throughout our stay. victor has made sure we'd experience as much as possible of the culture and could contribute towards the mexican lifestyle. the work was fair and we had a good working atmosphere. some of it required a lot of strength, but we always worked as a team and made things possible. i'd recommend this place to really anyone!! the farm and its the shelter and beings are absolutely worth a visit!!

Volunteering at the divertigranja was such a cool experience. It is a proper Mexican farm and you will really be immersed in the local culture (meeting friends of Victor and going to locals places with the other volunteers and Victor). Victor is super nice and funny, and he really makes everything possible for you to have the best experience in Oaxaca. He is also very open to any ideas, you might bring in. The work can be tough but is also very satisfying. Would definitely recommend to any adventure and culture lover!!

In the end it was a good experience, I learned a lot and met some great people on the farm we had great times in the evening after the work was done, you have the place pretty much to yourselves. the shelter are great and it's beautiful, I however would only recommend this workaway to people who are very comfortable in a VERY rustic environment, you will be coliving with lots of mice and cockroaches 😁. It's hard work, you set your own hours, and it's a low budget operation so you won't always have the materials or tools needed for the jobs. So be prepared to get creative and dirty!

Life on the farm is super flexible, with lots of jobs to do so it never gets boring. You can work as much or as little as you'd like with little pressure. the shelter are all lovely and you can tell that Victor Hugo truly cares about them, although sometimes they lacked proper the shelter due to a lack of money. Victor Hugo is a nice social man and you are left to your own devices every evening. The accommodation is not great, the kitchen is functional but very dirty and full of mice! The bedrooms are also full of mice and cockroaches, and the bathrooms are pretty exposed and dirty.
