The Experience

Keen to learn how to make cheese and dairy? You will contribute to our goals of turning this previously conventional dairy farm into an ecological mixed farm, and you will learn valuable new skills in the process. You will help our team making cheese, yoghurt, butter, cream and other dairy products and if you stay long enough, you might learn to do it independently! The farm is an avantgarde company that puts sustainable agriculture as its north star—perfect for agriculture students or anyone curious about organic farming, dairy, or cheese making. It's a safe space to learn; many of the people I worked with are volunteers, and all skill levels are welcome. You'll help with dairy production, milking cows, arable farming, and distribution. Ask Alijanna to schedule tasks based on your interests—she's kind and flexible. Meals use organic ingredients, and you're welcome to join, cook, or eat solo. I'm grateful to say I'm home away from home.

In general I had a pretty good experience. People that work there and the other volunteers are very nice, and you are going to hear Dutch all the time. The work usually has a little routine to be done, depending on what you are doing, usually starting at 9. It is flexible on the days off, and also in the type of work according to your needs. The work also can be quite heavy on the body, since you need to work with 12kg cheeses. I recommend this experience if you want to learn more about cheeses and dairy production.
