The Experience

Come and help rebuild an ancient stone barn. Set in the middle of the Brecon Beacons National park, the barn is full of history and requires a little love. Lessons in stone laying will be provided so previous knowledge is not critical, only a good work ethic and some positive energy.

My week at the project was wonderful! It is a place full of peace and good energy. I was able to cook with vegetables and fruits from the garden and other local products. I also helped take care of the garden for the winter. The work was simple, and Matty is flexible with the schedules. Matty is an amazing person, very kind, fun, and great company. He was also very patient with my English. He always had interesting topics and stories to share. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun with him. I definitely recommend this experience and I would love the opportunity to come back one day! ☺️♥️

My experience at the project was very positive. The place is beautiful, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. The work is physical, but you get used to it. Taking care of the chickens and the vegetable garden was truly enjoyable. The nearest town is a 25-minute walk away. Matty is friendly and makes you feel at home. Overall, it's a recommended volunteer opportunity for those seeking a calm environment and contact with nature.

I had a great time at the farm! Matty is a very welcoming host and great conversationalist. The house and garden are beautiful with a super interesting history. I really enjoyed spending time with Haggis and the chickens and cooking with vegetables from the garden. The nearest town Talgarth is only a 25 min walk away with a great bakery. I definitely recommend the farm!

I have absolutely loved all of Wales and Talgarth is such a cute gem. Matty is a wonderful host and made me feel safe and at home from the first day. Both his house and his farm are stunning: surrounded by hills and woods, I felt at peace, free. He's also been very patient with all my questions ahah: even though I was born and raised in the countryside I feel like I've learned more from my time here than at home. You'll get used to the physical work pretty soon and after a while I've grown so fond of the animals and plants that it didn't even feel like work anymore!

My volunteering with Matty was great. The place is really calm and relaxing, perfect to unwind. Matty is super friendly and welcoming, you quickly feel at home. I went on some amazing walks thanks to his tips, and the scenery was beautiful. Honestly, I had a great time. Thanks again, Matty!
