The Experience

At the Cat Cafe, volunteers will join a team of people saving cats from shelter life while providing a home like environment in our cat lounge. Volunteers will help in the Cafe with food delivery and cleaning tables, in the cat lounge by caring for our fur babies and helping to get them adopted, and in the hostel with cleaning the kitchen! You will meet lots of great volunteers, expats, locals and people saving animals in Costa Rica!

I loved my stay in Uvita! Tricia is extremely nice and the work with the cats was amazing and did not feel like work at all!

Absolutely loved my time at the shelter, Tricia is such an amazing person and I love what she does for the cats. The work is very easy and just includes cleaning the shelter room, cleaning litter boxes, and feeding and taking care of the cats. Some small duties to help the cafe part is going to get bread or ice and watering the plants outside. My only trouble was with Cascada Verde and I do not recommend anyone stay there.

My experience was amazing, I recommend it. The labour was never more than 25hrs a week. Some days taking care of the cats, some days helping in the hostel, and some days both (kitchen hand is only in the hostel, not the shelter). There are two hosts. Tricia, in charge of the shelter caffe, is lovely, easygoing Julie, the owner of the hostel, is kind but very strict a control freak, unflexible. Watch out, stick to the rules, and always ask first (she is around only the weekends). Accomodation was not very comfy, you can't stand up in the room for volunteers. It is not close to the beach!

I had a wonderful experience at Cascada Verde and the shelter—Uvita is a beautiful place to be. The work was easy: playing with/feeding/cleaning up after the cats and talking to visitors at the cafe, and helping with breakfast and laundry at the hostel. The agreed upon hours were met (though sometimes I would work 7 hours one day and 2 the next, I never worked more than 25 hours/week). The hostel is a bit secluded (15 min walk to the shelter, an hour walk to the beach) and the sleeping situation was rustic (mattress on the floor of the loft) but I didn't mind. (:

The experience was amazing, at the café the work is very easy and if you are a the shelter lover, you will fall in love with all of them. The work to help them adapt and find a home is very nice and rewarding. Tricia is lovely and very kind. As for the hostel, it is a beautiful place that makes you connect with nature in its purest form, enjoy the tranquility and see different species of animals. Julie is lovely and will make you feel at home. The both works are very easy and helps you to meet people from other places and to practice and improve your English and Spanish. Highly recommended experience
