I spent 1 month here and it was a lovely experience! The work is simple - bed making and cleaning around the hostel. 3 different shifts: 8am-3pm, 12-8pm or 4-11pm. 8 hour shifts sound badddd but trust me they're fine. Once you finish the tasks, you just chill in the common area with friends and can do whatever as long as you're in the hostel/only away for a short time. Location is in a poorer area of Osaka but it's really interesting seeing a more raw side of Japan that you don't see on social media! Shu is a kind manager and Kenji is lovely too. He works very hard! Overall I recommend :)

I had a wonderful time here for more than a month, it was a very meaningful stop for me. The other employees here were very kind and I would like to thank Shu. This is a social hostel so it is usually loud so it can be hard to find a quiet area for yourself, other than that if you like a social hostel then this is the place for you. I liked this place, I send my best wishes.

Shu is the best manager of planet Earth. He will work endless hours to improve the guest house and make feel the volunteers at ease. I had the great luck to work and live with other staff members who were excellent human beings. Life at full force at the guest house! Thank you!

The Hostel is located in one of the rougher neighborhoods in Japan but it's very safe and close to Shinsekai, Dotonbori, and Nipponbashi. Shu-san was very kind, and the work isn't very hard. You spend about half the shift doing basic housekeeping tasks, and the rest of the time is just waiting around for guests to check in. The vibe of the hostel is pretty laid back. The furnishings for both staff and guests are pretty basic, and the airflow in the staff room isn't that good, but the beds are pretty comfortable and I slept well. All the staff were friendly.

I hope Daniel gets better soon. The problem with the staff room is the air circulation (੭;´ ꒫`)੭

The hostel showa really was a great place and even home to stay at, I was able to meet all kinds of different, awesome people. It was my first volunteering experience, I liked it a lot! The kitchen and living room provide a pretty good space for socializing, playing games and evendancing, really great! As for the work, you only have to work for 3 days a week, so you can enjoy Osaka or make day trips to Kyoto, Nara or Kobe. A shift is around 7 hours (3 hours cleaning and the rest is for making check-ins). Also, our manager Shu is kind and generous, always willing to help. the hostel out ✌️

The hostel Showa is exactly as advertised, 3 days of work for four days off. The hostel is located in a poor neighborhood which is good for finding cheap food and alcohol but it doesn't feel like the most culturally enriching experience. The hostel wasn't as clean as I was hoping, lots of bugs; the main downside is the neighbours. The hostel decided to say all smoking, phone calls, and any conversation outside was strictly prohibited. So if you are okay with being inside or away from the hostel this place is for you, if you enjoy nature or fresh air near your hostel I suggest going elsewhere

Thank you. Unfortunately, we also received a guest complaint against you, but we didn't say anything. Since it is an old house, we cannot make 100% complaints about insects. I wonder if they mistook our guesthouse for a hotel.
