The Experience

We're located in the beautiful, peaceful National Park on the South-West tip of the Algarve about 3kms away from Vila do Bispo. We provide a safe haven for animals in our refuge. Volunteers are so important to help feeding and walking the animals; cleaning their areas and houses; photographing them so they can be advertised on social media; generally caring for and spending time with them; maintaining/cleaning our garden area & buildings.

It was a great time at the shelter. I had plenty of free time and really enjoyed the lovely work with the dogs and cats. Taking care of a little kitten was a bit stressful – but it was definitely worth it. ❤️ What could be improved is the communication at work, so that problems can be solved earlier and more easily. All in all, I visited many beautiful places in the shelter and can definitely recommend this stay.

Thank you for all your help Tabea. We do have the group chat for communication and everybody has my phone number so it is easy to communicate if there are any problems. I'm not sure how else we can improve communication-any ideas would be welcome? I'm pleased you enjoyed your time here.

Working with the dogs was very rewarding and fun to experience! The other volunteer really helped me in the beginning and we also had contact outside the working hours. It was a very peaceful place to enjoy nature and long walks if you are into this. I would recommend coming by car though because otherwise you have to walk quite some distances to get to a nearby shop or beach. Eather way it was a very nice experience!

I really enjoyed my stay at the shelter. The working hours and tasks were all very reasonable and looking after the dogs and cats was very enjoyable as they were all lovely. There was also a lot to do during free time, for example the beaches and nearby towns were all very nice. I would definitely recommend staying here :)

I really enjoyed my time at the shelter! The day was well structured, and with three to five hours of work per day, there was still plenty of time to explore the town and the beaches. The dogs and cats were all incredibly sweet, and it was hard to say goodbye to them.

I really loved my time at the shelter. The work was really easy and even when you work double (you only do that twice a week) you still have plenty of time to chill or go to the beach. It's only a 40 min walk to the beach and the view is breathtaking especially when the sun sets. The best thing was of course the dogs. They are the cutest you want to take them all home!
