The Experience

We're located in the beautiful, peaceful National Park on the South-West tip of the Algarve about 3kms away from Vila do Bispo. We provide a safe haven for animals in our refuge. Volunteers are so important to help feeding and walking the animals; cleaning their areas and houses; photographing them so they can be advertised on social media; generally caring for and spending time with them; maintaining/cleaning our garden area & buildings.

I really enjoyed my time at the shelter! The day was well structured, and with three to five hours of work per day, there was still plenty of time to explore the town and the beaches. The dogs and cats were all incredibly sweet, and it was hard to say goodbye to them.

I really loved my time at the shelter. The work was really easy and even when you work double (you only do that twice a week) you still have plenty of time to chill or go to the beach. It's only a 40 min walk to the beach and the view is breathtaking especially when the sun sets. The best thing was of course the dogs. They are the cutest you want to take them all home!

My time at the shelter was truly amazing. I met so many nice people, formed friendships with other volunteers and made memories I will value for a lifetime. Caring for the dogs didn't really feel like work for me. The hours are more than reasonable and cuddling Evan was always the highlight of my day. The shops and the beach are also close by, especially if you have a car like i did. Please be aware that in order to wash your clothes you either have to use the provided bathtub or sink in the shelter or spend 5€ at the laundry in town. All in all I would more than recommend!

My stay at the shelter was incredible! The dogs are very sweet and kind. And it's really fun and rewarding working with the dogs and the other volunteers. I met a lot of wonderful people and we had lots of time to explore the area (even on the days we were working). There's lots of things to do in the area (there's bikes, uber or buses to cities). I stayed in a great caravan taking care of the cutest dog which was also great! If you're looking for a meaningful place where you get to be close to wonderful nature and meet others I would highly recommend this place!

Volunteering at the shelter was a great experience. I learned a lot of new things, enjoyed beautiful nature and met amazing people!! And of course all the dogs there where absolutely wonderful!!! It felt good to be able to help in some way, because the dogs deserve the best. However, you must be prepared that it can get dirty there, but that is a part of the experience :)
