The Experience

After searching for several years we found a 5500 m2 land with 2 little houses to restore/renovate right on the border with Portugal. The area has a lot of options to get to know (the truth is that we still don't know it very well yet) and the idea is to share the space and ideas to make it a more livable place. We would like to make raised garden beds, greenhouse, finish landscaping and planting flowers and more trees.

Carven and Alex are the best! They are super welcoming and easy to communicate with. I definitely went into this without much experience, but they were super patient and happy to teach me all the things! I had so much fun and the work hardly felt like real work because of how passionate everyone was about the project. They were great at making everything a team effort and really make you feel like your opinion is wanted and needed.

This was my first worldpackers experience and it was amazing! They are welcoming hosts, very understanding and easy to talk to, never felt uncomfortable or overworked. My friend and I accompanied them to local towns and learned much about the area, culture, and its history. Their property is very beautiful with lovely meals every day. Additionally, they have the cutest baby who is an absolute joy to be around. I am very grateful for this experience and what I have learned from it.

This was my first time volunteering and travelling so far so I was very anxious, but I had a really amazing time with the hosts, Alex and Carven. When my friend and I arrived, we were greeted very warmly with open arms. I loved being able to spend time with them and their baby! The work itself was mainly weeding, gardening, and doing other miscellaneous tasks, but it was very rewarding and we were always able to take breaks. They took us to the beach, and we got to visit a bunch of surrounding towns and cities. Overall, a 10/10 experience, couldn't have wished for better hosts <3
