The Experience

We are a quirky, unconventional international couple (+2 international? cats) that - after many varied life experiences - decided to buy a large house and move to rural Japan. We own a few businesses, are focused on personal development, and have everything we want out here except for good company: pleasant, communicative, respectful, curious, and open-minded people also interested in personal growth… who can help with the dishes!

I am truly grateful for my time at Alex and Akiko's place, it was such a wonderful experience :) The stay is located far from the city and surrounded by greenery and nature, which helped me slow down, feel more at ease and reconnect with myself. Although I wasn't able to help much with the outdoor work due to the weather conditions, I really enjoyed helping out with cooking, doing the dishes, and spending time with them in other meaningful ways. The conversations I had with both of them were also thoughtful, engaging, and gave me perspectives I'll definitely carry with me moving forward!

I really enjoyed my time in with Alex and Akiko! From the start, they were super kind, understanding and easy to talk to - I had many interesting conversations with them that I won't forget 🤗 I really appreciated the chance to try things I've never done before, which was both exciting and rewarding. The tasks were varied but always fair and the food was consistently delicious! I also feel lucky to have met Emily, another volunteer, who made the experience even more enjoyable! We shared lots of laughs together. This place is perfect to get out of the city and enjoy nature. I'm glad I came!

My stay with Alex and Akiko was very nice! Since it is located in a very rural area with lots of nature around it was a great getaway from the cities. The mountains are incredible! The work was very flexible and easy, some work on renovating the house and doing the dishes, the host always tried to make it as comfortable as possible. I also learned a lot about Japanese culture through his wife, Akiko, who made me feel so welcome and at home. They also have 2 super cute cats!! If you don't have high standards regarding accommodation, i can really recommend this place Thank you for hosting me!

I learned so many new things here, especially about working in the nature. I also had many good and interesting conversations with the hosts. They were very nice people who you could talk to very easily. They also tried to make everything as comfortable as possible for us. I'm really grateful for the good hospitality and also the great food we got from Akiko ☺️ The tasks and hours were very fair and as agreed upon :) I'm also very glad to have met Maria, another volunteer, and to be able to work with her. We both had a great time 🤗 Thank you so much for this great and interesting experience!

It was great to have you, and sorry there wasn't much of interest for you to do in the area. When we say "middle of nowhere", we really mean it :)

The homestay was a cosy oasis from the big cities in Japan. It's a good place to unwind and relax but there isn't a lot to do around the area. I definitely recommend this place for anyone that wants to chill out and relax.
