The Experience

Our project is a sustainably built and functional off grid retreat centre located in a valley where 2 rivers meet and not far from the Serra da Estrela Mountain Range (the highest point of mainland Portugal) which makes for dramatic beauty in nature. 🌳 Since 2017 we have welcomed Volunteers, it has been a pleasure to meet so many beautiful people from across the globe and we’re really grateful for all the helping hands! 🌎

Ashley and Rory have done such an incredible job creating the Center! Their commitment to environmental sustainability through limited water usage, solar panels and recycling is fantastic, and something I'm glad to have been a part of. The property itself is beautiful, I wish I could have stayed longer, and what you receive in turn for 5 hours of work per day is very fair. Thank you Ashley and Rory, I hope to see you again one day 🙏🏽

My experience at the Center went beyond a simple work exchange. Ashley and Rory are two beautiful souls and they make you feel welcomed, they are super caring and value a lot the help of volunteers. All the people I met there, including volunteers, guests and people leaving in the community were very inspiring and I was able to build special links and learn a lot from them. The land is incredible, especially for who loves hiking, there is so much to explore. Tasks and shifts respect what is specified on the profile. I will for sure go back to the Center one day!

During my stay here I was able to reconnect with nature. You can have some meditative time and do yoga (1/week with Ashley, and alone anytime you want). In the dorm with the other volunteers we created a very beautiful environment and we got along very well :) The general experience for me was like an actual work one. Ashley and Rory were both busy with their own work and I didn't had the chance to speak a lot with them. I would have appreciated if they had created sharing moments with us, to get to know each other. I suggest you come here with a driving license and money to pay for gas.

My volunteer period in the Center was amazing, it let me discovering how interesting is that area of Portugal, from a social and environmental point of view. Life there is off grid, so you should be aware of that… it's a wonderful chance to get more in touch with Nature and feel connected. Tasks are more or less always the same, so you'll learn quickly and working there was amazing for me bc you could feel a lovely Energy 💓🌞🌸

Asia was a bubble of joy to have around the retreat center. She was always willing to help with whatever needed to be done and to show new volunteers how things needed to be done. We'd recommend her.
