Amazing experience volunteering with João for 10 days! João has a lot of knowledge about permaculture, agriculture, and DIY (he basically built his own house). I learned a lot about the native plants of the Mata Atlântica, the fruits and roots that he grows, and how to plant, harvest, and consume them. The food was amazing – healthy and varied! I also learned a lot about the local communities that live in Ubatuba. I helped out with a variety of tasks, and João was always very flexible about what I could do to help. Take good hiking/working boots, mosquito repellent, jeans, and long sleeves.
