The Experience

We opened this Guesthouse in 2016. It contains many room with different bed arrangements, solo rooms, dormitory room, 2 beds room... Our goal is to allow people to create connections in a chill and respectful atmosphere. Your main help will be cleaning the rooms after the guests have checked out and prepare the breakfast (nothing difficult, just miso soup and rice). Sometimes you will have to close the lounge area at the end of the day.

The guest house is a great place to experience Japan, nature, friendship, and an easygoing life. I came at the tailend of an era, as now the guest house is deciding to rebrand as a music guesthouse. It sounds very cool moving forward, though I will say this may mean the nature of the volunteer work will change. There were some times I wished communication came earlier, but other than that Taro is very accomodating, Kayano is kind, and Jo and Yuri do their best to keep things running and everyone happy. You'll have plenty of free time to explore the city, but having a Japanese drivers' license is a game changer

Time flew by, but thanks for spending such a meaningful time with us.
You came right when LuLuLu was going through a big change, and we really appreciated your support!

Also, thanks for being honest about the communication — we'll do our best to make things smoother for future helpers.

Come back and visit anytime!
By then, the music and food will be even better than before 🎶

I stayed at the guest house for almost three months, and it was a truly lovely and enjoyable experience. The people working and living there are kind and always ready to help with any travel plans or questions. Taro, Kayano, Jo, and Yuri are wonderful people who are always striving to give their best and constantly improve every aspect of the guest house. It's also a great place to meet people from all over the world and practice different languages (Especially French 🤌🏽) I had a lot of fun every day and really enjoyed my time there. Highly recommended!

The time that I spent in the guest house was really amazing. Leaving there was just having a new family. The work is not hard and we can make a lot of different activities all together. Kochi is a really nice place and it is really easy to meet new people there.

Truly an amazing experience at the guest house! The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and I was able to form close connections with them, the other volunteers and the long time residents. The guesthouse is very social, we were cooking and sharing meals together almost everyday. There are also group events at least once a month, where you get to experience Japanese cuisine, learn the Japanese language and hang out with the little community. The work is standard for a guesthouse and pretty easy, every part of it was as agreed on. Couldn't recommend enough, I feel like I have a new family in kochi!

We’re so glad LuLuLu felt like home for you — we truly enjoyed the time together and already miss you!

Thank you for your honest thoughts about the lounge. We understand how the changes may have felt limiting, and we really appreciate how much you valued it as a space to connect with others. It gave us a lot to think about.

We’ll keep working to make LuLuLu even more welcoming.
Can’t wait to see you again someday! 😊
