The Experience

Enjoy our quiet, remote desert farmhouse and guesthouse, in exchange for helping with assorted building and household chores! We adapt tasks for volunteers' skillsets. Some common projects include building wooden cabins, working on our social media and marketing, preparing and planting flowerbeds, miscellanious handyman tasks, and music creation with our talented 17-year-old pianist. Please note animal care is not a part of this position.

Under the stars, warmed by the glow of the bonfire, the house hums with an energy so infectious it makes you smile and never want to leave. The tasks are fun and creative, and they make sure the work suits your gifts and what you enjoy doing. There's so much kindness, openness, and laughter that you instantly feel at home. It's not just an experience—it's family. I've truly enjoyed my time here and feel grateful for every moment.

Staying at the lodge was such an incredible experience. The family is SO kind and welcoming, as is Ernest, who works at the house during the days and was always happy to share stories of his Zulu culture. Max, Jack, and Rox, the teens at the house, all were so fantastic at helping me whenever I needed assistance and welcoming me into everything, and Justin and Freyni were so kind and flexible with hours. I was able to work according to my own schedule building up the social media sites! The accommodation was great, too. Highly recommend. P.S. Their dogs, especially Badger, are the sweetest EVER!

I had a really lovely time at the lodge, it was absolutely perfect for me as a change of pace from hectic backpacking. The accommodation, food etc. was all very comfortable and generous. I really enjoyed the tasks that I was set which included tinkering with the tractor, building fences, gardening, Helping to repair the road and other general jobs. We also went on several trips to the local towns & Justin slowed me to accompany him on a research trip, which was v cool. It was very nice to be in a family environment, exchanging stories and jokes over yummy meals and walks. Would highly recommend!

If you are a traveler and are looking for an unforgettable adventure, this is the ideal place for you! A unique experience, waking up every day with a wonderful view of the mountains and to the sound of excellent classical music played on the piano, each day with a different spetaculum sunset and with starry sky. The tasks are diverse and with the possibility of choosing what you prefer to do, with flexibility of schedules, always accompanied by a lovely company and with a helper who is worth more than a teacher, to help you with any clarification you need. I recommend it with my eyes closed

Hei. I was there for 2 1/2 weeks in March 2024 and can highly recommend it. A wonderful, warm-hearted family who take care of everything. You get fantastic food, have your own bathroom and bedroom, bed is mega cosy. The farm is in a lovely quiet place and it is so peaceful there. In the morning and during the day you are woken up by the piano of one son, so lovely. (Max 😊🙌) There is really a lot to do on the farm, especially a lot of renovation in the craft. I have redesigned the gardens and done some creative work. So you have to go there, highly recommended. ❤️
