The Experience

We have been at our off-grid property about 30 minutes from Mount beach, 1 hour from Hamilton since December 2021 and have been developing infrastructure such as an earth-built communal kitchen, outhouses and sheds, outdoor toilets and shower areas , etc. There is much more to do, such as building the root cellar, and so on. Additional activities consist of maintenance tasks such as cutting the grass, weeding, maintaining the catchments,...

Ata & Doris is such a genuinely kind couple. I really enjoyed all the jobs given. I like that the jobs were mixed everyday so I didn't get bored. Also learned a lot (thanks to Ata, I really appreciate it) such as using the chainsaw, the excavator, making cob, clearing water table, compacting driveway) The property was absolutely gorgeous, the view of the mountains on the horizon during sunrise and sunset, the diversity of the floras, the rivers, the waterfall, the glowworm. Also a massive appreciation to Ata & Doris for building a purposeful place that benefits others and the nature itself.

My time at the home was amazing. I could connect with nature through the tasks, the sleeping place and the life on their off-the-grid property in general. The gave me enough space and time to develop myself. Not only through the tasks, but also in my freetime. I also want to mention the amazing river water, the delicious vegetarian food and the lovely dog Maia with her sticks. I would definitely recommend this experience if you want to connect with nature and develop yourself!

I really enjoyed my experience here. Before arriving, I was expecting simple gardening tasks but I was stoked to have more fulfilling jobs that make you feel like you're a part of the project. I was not expecting to face the challenges of kids yelling and Maia barking most of the day but Ata was a great resource in developing a positive and mindful attitude. The food was crazy good and I wish I stayed longer. Only improvement I see would be an easier way to communicate in the transition to and around job periods. Maybe an agreed-upon muster point? Thank you again for everything

It's been a great week at Doris and Ata's place! Their property is stunning and there is a lot to explore. I really liked the daily schedule with a good amount of breaks between the two hours of work in the morning and afternoon. The work was fun and not too challenging, I learned a lot. I had a great time to relax and with the other volunteers. Doris and Ata are very welcoming and open in communication. They really care about all your needs. And their food was really good! I definitely recommend especially if you're a nature lover!
