The Experience

We have been at our off-grid property about 30 minutes from Mount beach, 1 hour from Hamilton since December 2021 and have been developing infrastructure such as an earth-built communal kitchen, outhouses and sheds, outdoor toilets and shower areas , etc. There is much more to do. Additional activities consist of maintenance tasks such as cutting the grass, weeding, maintaining the catchments,...

I had a really great time with everyone here and felt welcomed into the family. Everyone was very genuine and my time truly felt like a collaborative exchange. We had wonderful conversations, I learned a lot, and I got to enjoy plenty of time with the land. The food was also amazing. Everything was as described beforehand. No complaints about my time here, I definitely recommend this place to anyone who has the opportunity to go!

This experience was great! I felt so welcomed by everyone and apart of their experience. The work was varied and manageable with an emphasis on learning. The facilities were as described, no complaints. Thank you!

Doris and Ata made such a kind and warm space to experience more of life. This family will hold a special place in my memories. I felt extremely welcomed and loved all the work we did (ex: weeding (manually and with a weed wacker), and washing/priming a wall for a mural). The food was amazing and the tents were cozy and warm. I loved the long conversations we would have at the table about everything and anything. They opened my eyes to a kind of sustainable life that I was so distanced from. I will cherish the week I spent with them and the entire family.

Ata and Doris are both wonderful hosts that emphasize how important communication is. They believe that if something is not of value to you, it is best to say it and resolve that uncomfortable feeling so that you have a fulfilling experience that you value. They were easy to connect with since they have so much knowledge about a lot of things going on in the world. They offer such a great experience to connect with nature on another level. Overall, this experience has taught me more about myself and the life I want to live.

I truly enjoyed this experience, it was my first time volunteering so I was hesitant but once I settled it was great. Ata and Doris were very welcoming and the cooking was good too! I absolutely recommend this experience!
