I really liked this volunteer experience. Vanthon is a nice guy who really shows commitment and cares about his the school and students. My friend and me could stayed in his apartment, he also offered us the possibility to stay in an extra room at the the school. We used the kitchen in his apartment and the washing mashine as well, it was really nice to be able to cook for yourself. The children are lovely and the local teachers support you with translation. We worked from monday to friday from 1-5pm. Overall a nice and good experience! Thanks!

Me and my friend helped out at the the school for a total of two weeks. Our job was to teach the class (about 10-15 students) and to support the teachers. We had to plan the lessons by ourselves, which gave us alot of freedom, but was also a bit challenging at first. Both the children and the teachers were very nice and friendly. Mr Vathon is a kind guy and he really cares about his the school and is trying his best for the students and their education. The communication turned out to be challenging sometimes, but in the end it worked out pretty good. In general we enjoyed our time here:)

The children at the the school were lovely. However, this experience was not at all what I expected so I shortened my stay. The accommodation lacked privacy and I felt a bit intrusive on the host's space (I shared a bed with the other volunteer in the middle of the living room). At the school, there was a lack of guidance for us volunteers, and it seemed more marketing focused rather than a teaching opportunity for us. Improving communication skills could enhance the experience. Perhaps avoiding certain topics with volunteers (e.g. financial issues) could make it more comfortable for all involved.

Hi Manon ! the high class volunteer ! I used to told you that our community are poor so that we have no air-con or luxurious room like you want. you came to volunteer but you make your self like tycoon not for help us but ask for luxurious room , but however there are many volunteers they are enjoys with us for about two years ready because they know that our community are poor , our school is poor in out skirt city, we have no enough luxurious room for only you. But the other volunteers they can stayed and helped us a lot. Thank for your came two days with us.

El director de la escuela es encantador, pero está un poco desanimado con su proyecto, ya que tiene pocos alumnos. No supo definirme ni tenía planificadas cuáles eran mis funciones y responsabilidades. Simplemente me explicó el horario de los niños y me dejó en una clase y cuando los niños tuvieron recreo, simplemente estuve jugando con ellos, no entendí nada, ya que en teoría iba a enseñar inglés. La habitación estaba dentro de la escuela, así que cuando acababa el horario escolar me quedaba allí sola durmiendo y la comidas me ofreció salir con él a comer “street food”.
