The Experience

Julie and I have a small hobby farm 25kms inland from Murwillumbah. The region is sub tropical. It's a 45 minute drive from Gold Coast airport, just over the Queensland border. We are 900kms north of Sydney. There is a separate guest room in our shed with a queen size bed and en-suite bathroom/shower. We're happy to host friendly, positive travelers, who are willing to do a bit of work around the property and learn from each other.

It was an amazing time I had spent with the home Julie. I felt so welcomed in their home and truly a part of family. It was amazing to hear all the stories, share meals and work together. I've learned a lot about plants, gardening, cooking, but also local animals and Asian cultures. The workload wasn't heavy and there was plenty of free time. Days passed calmly and slowly, creating a peaceful atmosphere, making me wish I could spend there more time.

I was here during the cyclone so the situation was different and unexpected but Julie the home were very nice and comprehensive. We had interesting conversations about travels, cultures, arts and life in general. Julie was working a lot unfortunately (because of the cyclone) so I spent almost all the week with the home but we cooked, listened to the music, he helped me with my English and I even helped him to cut a tree in the middle of the road…funny experience! Plus, the nature is just beautiful so I recommend this volunteering if you are looking for a peaceful place :)

The home Julie made me feel at home and supported at all times. Daily tasks were diverse and very engaging; the hours reasonable and rewarding - always followed by delicious homemade meals. Performing gardening duties taught me a great deal about plant cultivation, and helping around the house made me more proficient at working with mechanical tools. The hosts demonstrated how to live self-sufficiently in the heart of nature, teaching me skills that are aligned with my future aspirations. Surrounded by mesmerizing views devoid of any noise or pollution, I felt healthier and happier.

One of the best Worldpackers experiences I've had, I wish I could've stayed longer! the home Julie are incredibly kind and hospitable, cooking delicious healthy food. The separate bedroom/bathroom is cozy, with great facilities. Work was not too difficult and I learned lots of life skills - mostly gardening in the morning and doing dishes after meals, with a beautiful view of the mountains. the home Julie took me around a neighboring town and national park, we shared many insightful conversations. I feel like I have a new home in Australia - absolutely recommend!!
