I had a lovely time volunteering in the countryside of Tamba! The work was easy to do and always accompanied with great music :) In my small time here the host brought us hiking and visiting a temple so we could explore more around and we have free bike to use which is really nice to bicycle around the rice fields! I'd definitely recommend this experience to anyone who's looking for a getaway in nature:D

Super nice experience :) The tasks were super easy and you have enough time to visit around Tamba. Although it is in the countryside, you have different sightseeing options accessible by train, car or bike. The host also brought us in different places and offered tours.

Fuga is a really nice and considerate host. He's always making sure everything is alright and he's open to new ideas. The work in the guesthouse is really chill and the schedule is flexible, so you can plan citytrips as well! Tamba is a beautifull place in the countryside, the view off the mountains is absolutely stunning! Great place for hikes, bikerides and enjoying nature.

In this place the time flows in a different way. Everything is so magical and surrounded by nature. The river, mountains and waterfalls that you can see around will make you fall in love with Tamba.. But the thing that make this place a special one is Fuga san. He is a trully amazing person! He helped me in difficult moment and we drove around incredible places and had great moments togheter with the other volunteers! We also organized some BBQ sometimes and we could eat all togheter like a family If you like a slow kind of life Tamba is special!❤️

I had a great experience!! I got what I was looking for a quiet place, typical Japanese and nice people around. Work is very chill and you have lot of free time. Fuga makes you feel at home, and if you're lucky he'll cook you something delicious :)

This place was incredible. Fuga showed volunteers around the area, taking them on hikes and to shrines. The work is reasonable and relaxed. The house is located in a beautiful area next to a river and a great path for walking, running, or biking. Fuga was super helpful with teaching Japanese, finding activities to do, and making the place feel like home for volunteers. This was an amazing first experience for me with Worldpackers.

If you like a quiet, serene and peaceful place, this is exactly it. The accommodation is great. Very warm and cozy with windows so it's not too stuffy. Kitchen has most equipment you would need and we go to buy ingredients almost everyday. Work is mostly cleaning and I wouldn't say it's easy for everyone but you often get support. If you want to explore on foot, there're limited places you can go but together we check out some shops or shrines from time to time. I don't want to spoil it all for you so I'll tell you one last thing. Beware of Fuga. He's so likable you wouldn't want to leave.

My experience at Kuromame Ann was a truly memorable one. Tamba is a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and is a hidden gem for nature lovers. As a host, Fuga was exceptionally caring and thoughtful: planning hikes, organising BBQs and taking volunteers on tours to local attractions whenever there was time. He ensured volunteers had breaks while working and he also scheduled time off in a way that was considerate of volunteers' travel plans. The work itself was pretty straightforward, usually taking around 3-4 hours a day. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better first experience.

Location: The inn is a very pretty 30 minute bike ride from town where there are restaurants, groceries, thrift stores, and the train station. Nestled among the mountain along a bike path and a river, you can enjoy hearing the birds and the surrounding peace of the area. Host: Fuga is kind and curious and makes sure to engage volunteers in activities during their stay like visiting temples, hiking, or barbecues. He can sometimes micromanage during cleaning sessions and has very high standards for cleanliness, but work and hours are as agreed upon.
