This place was incredible. Fuga showed volunteers around the area, taking them on hikes and to shrines. The work is reasonable and relaxed. The house is located in a beautiful area next to a river and a great path for walking, running, or biking. Fuga was super helpful with teaching Japanese, finding activities to do, and making the place feel like home for volunteers. This was an amazing first experience for me with Worldpackers.

If you like a quiet, serene and peaceful place, this is exactly it. The accommodation is great. Very warm and cozy with windows so it's not too stuffy. Kitchen has most equipment you would need and we go to buy ingredients almost everyday. Work is mostly cleaning and I wouldn't say it's easy for everyone but you often get support. If you want to explore on foot, there're limited places you can go but together we check out some shops or shrines from time to time. I don't want to spoil it all for you so I'll tell you one last thing. Beware of Fuga. He's so likable you wouldn't want to leave.

My experience at Kuromame Ann was a truly memorable one. Tamba is a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and is a hidden gem for nature lovers. As a host, Fuga was exceptionally caring and thoughtful: planning hikes, organising BBQs and taking volunteers on tours to local attractions whenever there was time. He ensured volunteers had breaks while working and he also scheduled time off in a way that was considerate of volunteers' travel plans. The work itself was pretty straightforward, usually taking around 3-4 hours a day. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better first experience.

Location: The inn is a very pretty 30 minute bike ride from town where there are restaurants, groceries, thrift stores, and the train station. Nestled among the mountain along a bike path and a river, you can enjoy hearing the birds and the surrounding peace of the area. Host: Fuga is kind and curious and makes sure to engage volunteers in activities during their stay like visiting temples, hiking, or barbecues. He can sometimes micromanage during cleaning sessions and has very high standards for cleanliness, but work and hours are as agreed upon.

Kuromame an is a very charming guesthouse in Tamba, a city hidden away in the mountains. There's plenty of beautiful nature all around, with lots of local shrines, waterfalls, and hikes within just a short drive away. Fuga is an incredible host and a lot of fun to talk to one-on-one. He has a great sense of humor, is a very knowledgeable tour guide, and an *outstanding* chef. Big cities such as Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe are only a couple hours away by train. Volunteers get 3 days off a week, so a mutli-day trip to the city is very doable. If you like the peace and quiet, I highly recommend it!

Volunteering at Kuromame was an amazing experience. It's the perfect place to wind down if you have been on the road for a while, you have plenty of time to relax due to work being easy and only a couple of hours a day. Fuga is a great host, very flexible and happy to accomodate your specific needs and travel plans. The area is truly beautiful with lots of opportunities to experience the Japanese countryside. From shrines and temples to mountains and forest walks, there is plenty to see, and all away from the crowds you encounter in other touristic hotspots. I can highly recommend Kuromame!

I had my first volunteer experience at Kuromame, and I'm deeply grateful I chose to do it there. Fuga is an amazing host—having been a volunteer himself, he truly understands what it feels like and ensures everyone feels safe and welcome. He's kind, energetic, and always smiling! The work is easy, with a great atmosphere and good vibes. If you're looking to disconnect and enjoy meaningful moments, I highly recommend volunteering here. Leaving was hard, but I'm sure I'll be back soon!

Fuga's place is an amazing experience. Work is easy and also fun with the music playing and the other volunteers. You have plenty of time to explore the surrounding area with many shrines, hikes and bridges. Time really flew by and I wish I could've stayed longer. But above all Fuga is an incredible host. He is a cheeky guy who understands what it means to be a volunteer. He is super nice and always takes care of the volunteers in the best way possible and goes above and beyond (plus he is also a great cook and musician). I really miss this place

I had a lovely time at Fuga's guesthouse in Kuromame and I would recommend it to anyone interested in Japan and guesthouse work. Fuga is young, fun to hang out with and a great cook! He also takes you on tours around the countryside and brings you to meet locals, which is always plus! As for the work, it's very manageable and you get 3 days off a week! If you enjoy the countryside, I strongly recommend contacting Fuga!

We had a wonderful time at Fuga's. It is truely the best worldpacker experience we've ever done. After one month and half at Fuga's in the beautiful Tamba, I cannot recommend you enough to apply for a volunteer there. Fuga's is an amazing host, he is compassionate, friendly, reaaally good chef and a great tour guide. The work is easy to learn, mainly beds, cleaning and DIY. There is A LOT to do around. You might have the chance to experience Japanese BBQ and meeting the cutie Hiyo-chan🥹. We are already missing the place and Fuga. It is definitely a place you'll want to come back.
