Had so much fun in the home. It's very quiet, so not the place if you're not prepared to just chill and enjoy the environment a lot. The guys at the house were lovely and included me in their plans and social activities. The kids were adorable too and so much fun. Would definitely love to go back

This is a great place to volunteer if you're looking for something chill and relaxing! Ricardo is super laid back and flexible, and the lakefront view is perfect for lounging all day. There aren't too many tourists that come to El Remate, so you really get a chance to live like the locals. Ricardo included me in all his plans, so I got to meet and connect with the community and build my own friendships!

I felt quite disappointed with my experience here. Especially seeing as everyone else's reviews where so good. I think I was there at a bad time, the host was not around so there was no introducing us to locals. The hostal had some maintenance issues, I'm sure when it isn't low season and the host is present, this experience is very different. The kids are very sweet to teach, with very little resources, being creative and imaginative will help a lot!

My experience volunteering at the home was great! Ricardo was very welcoming and made sure to not only make you feel at home, but you will also meet other locals though him. The place is very beautiful (especially at sunset) and El Remate is a cute little village. What you need to know beforehand though, is that as El Remate is very small, except for some day trips, there is not much to do. If you're looking for a calm and relaxing experience this volunteer option is perfect, if you want a little more social interaction though, two weeks are a very long time to stay there.
