The Experience

Welcome to the team! We are located on an indigenous reservation in Canada. Our volunteers come to immerse into indigenous culture and assist as we start our homestead. Here we provide a food bank for animals as well as Equine Assisted Learning. There is always plenty to help with. Everything from household chores, cooking all the way to farm labour, helping with animals and chopping and stacking fire wood.

My experience on the farm was wonderful! From the start, I was welcomed with respect, simplicity, and a strong connection to nature. I spent time with horses, rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals that made it even more special. The farm is beautiful no luxury, but everything that matters: kind people, plenty of food, respectful hours, good cell signal, and internet. One day, I had an upset stomach, and Jennifer quickly checked on me. Dan proudly shared the history of the Indigenous land. I enjoyed it so much I helped on my days off.

I had an amazing time at the shelter! I met Jennifer and her family who were lovely and hospitable from the first day until the last. I also met other travellers who became good friends very quickly! The work is fair and communicated well, and the lodgings are comfortable. I stayed in the cabin which I shared with my partner and another traveller, and there was more than enough room for the 3 of us to sleep and hang out. It really felt like a home away from home. I felt very welcomed into the community and would definitely recommend this experience to someone else! Thanks again Jennifer 😁❤️

This review was not based on an actual stay, as the volunteers left after a brief visit and were upset about being marked for not completing their program. The guest was mistaken for a driver, and on an indigenous reservation unannounced visitors aren’t permitted. Our project is still being built, but that is part of the authentic experience. We are an open book and welcome questions to clarify — which they did not do.

Estes e alguns outros motivos me fizeram desistir de voluntariar lá.

This review was not based on an actual stay. The volunteers left shortly after arriving and are upset about being marked for not completing their program, which Worldpackers requires for accuracy. They didn’t do their homework or ask questions beforehand. Our farm is in early stages, so things look simple, but that’s part of the authentic experience. The cat lives happily in the cabin, and food storage supports our community pet food bank.
