The Experience

We are a small family-run regenerative farm on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific, focused on goat dairy production with a regenerative approach. Volunteers help care for animals, clean stalls, harvest, make cheese, build and maintain structures, care for fruit trees, make compost and bio ferments, and keep the processing area clean — all while learning about sustainable and regenerative farming.

I am so grateful for my time here! Gabriela and Ivan are kind people, Ines is so outgoing, and the dogs brought me so much joy, this family is absolutely wonderful! I learned a lot about organic farming and had fun harvesting different crops. I learned about how they started their business and the intensive process of owning and growing a farm. The Sunday market was fun too and awesome to sell the products I helped package! The food provided was extremely generous of them and I felt that I was well taken great care of. Gabriela and Ivan cared about my well being and experience during my time.

My stay with Capriella was wonderful! Gabriela, Ivan, and Ines were very gracious and welcoming hosts. The tasks and hours were as expected and I felt like I was able to contribute to the farm in productive ways. Gabby made sure I was able to experience activities local to Costa Rica such as a language exchange at the local library where I was able to practice and improve my Spanish and meet lovely people. You can tell that both Gabby and Ivan really care about their animals, the land, and the products they produce. I highly recommend this experience!

Gabriella, ivan and ines were unbelievable generous to me during my stay with them. they went out of their way to make me and the other volunteer feel more at home while teaching us about the local culture. the work is simple, and it helps you get closer to nature. the goats are super cute and the dogs as well. if you're an animal person this is the place for you! i would absolutely recommend this experience to another traveller.

My stay here was truely amazing. Gabriella and her family are very welcoming and friendly people and I felt very at home. Their farm is very beautiful up in the mountains with a spectacular view and I got to enjoy a lot of time in nature. Gabriella and Ivan really do everything possible that you feel comfortable and have everything what you need and I got a lot of new perspectives about keeping goats and making cheese. They really love their animals and I really like their vision of creating a farm that is sustainable and where treating nature with the utmost respect is principle number one:)

I hesitated to give such a low review, but I think that it's important to impartially describe my experience. Gabriela and Ivan are great, extremely giving, and friendly people. I truly do value my time spent on the farm and the people that I met at the language exchange that Gabriela introduced me to. Unfortunately, a pest infestation and an inability to communicate and proactively solve problems ended my time on the farm a week early. I would be cautious choosing this volunteer opportunity for that reason, it's geographic isolation (lack of things to do) and lack of a social atmosphere.

Gabriela replied

We are really sorry that things did not work out for both of us. If you had read the ad and guest guide thoroughly you would have realized this is described as a secluded place where you disconnect and are in contact with nature. Presence of animals and insects is to be expected. The guide also specifies the minimum cleaning tasks that are expected to be carried out by the volunteers and you failed to do this making the other volunteer uncomfortable. We had to make a choice and unfortunately it was decided you had to leave.
