I spent two months at GHKI and I had a really good time. Essam, Naoko and the whole team are exceptional, welcoming and always supportive. I feel really lucky with the others co-volunteers. Good moments, made plans together and they made this experience so special. The work itself is normal hostel tasks with different shifts. The hostel is located in a quiet area near a beautiful park (Umekōji Park) and train station. I'm definitely going to miss it!! Thank you 🙏🏽

Wow, this one was hard to leave. I can advise you to go here. Essam and his team will welcome you with their warmth and generosity. The work is normal hostel work, and it is a great base to explore Kyoto and its surrounds. I was lucky to be with amazing co-volunteers which made a big difference. I will miss the laughter, shared meals, jokes and community feel of this place. Just be aware that you will be sharing a dorm with the guests, not the other volunteers. I felt that my work was appreciated here, which made it a positive experience. Until next time! Mata ne!

Great opportunity to meet people and explore Kyoto! Essam is a very friendly host, along with Naoko-san and Mika-san. And my fellow volunteers are awesome! :) The inn is in a very convenient location next to a train station. My one issue is that if you are staying for a month, you can't do reception, only housekeeping. This is fine of course, but it may be better in future to communicate this on the worldpackers profile. Other than this, I recommend if you're looking for a solid worldpackers experience in Kyoto!

Fantastic way to stay for a while in Kyoto and explore it as a resident and see all the sights. Recommend cherry blossom season. Work was easy and hours not too long - 4 hours for cleaning morning shift, 6 hours if you do the night shift, 8 days off a month but more if you do night shift. Nice beds and lots of space for luggage, many areas to chill out, well-equipped kitchen and fridge. Convenient place, 20 mins walk from station and easy to get bus and train and really nice park next door. Staff are lovely - shout out to Essam for all the jokes and good fun and Naoka and Mika for the recipes!
