The Experience

I'm Sonia ,the manager of the acommodation. If you are looking for a hostel in the very city center of Pontevedra. We are here to welcome you. We have just opened on April 23 and our dream is to reach as many nationalities as we could. Our hostel has 20 beds in a sharing space, surrounded by impressing monuments of our pedestrian awarded city. It is a family place so we'll show the best of Galicia.

Anyone who picks this hostel to volunteer will not be disappointed. The owners Sonia, and her mother Loli are absolutely delightful people. They go out of their way to make you feel like you are a part of their family. The work at the hostel is easy and routine. Clean the beds, bathrooms, & sweep/mop the floors. The guest reception is done from an iPad and is super easy to follow. The city of Pontevedra is so quaint welcoming. Get ready for some delicious empanadas and calamari! I stayed for almost a month but wish I could have stayed longer. I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity

My experience in Pontevedra has been quite different from what I was expecting. The place is a small hostel of 20 beds - one of which was mine. Staying there in August, the hostel was always full and the city very busy. I was the only volunteer and I run tasks of both cleaning and reception. At first the amount of working hours exceeded a lot the one agreed - I had to talk to Sonia to rearrange things, so that I eventually could finish my month there. In any case the workload overall felt to me more like a job, which might be good for skill development but honestly not for a volunteering.
