Calling early birds! Take care of cows on a Swedish farmstead

I was there for 2 months, I'm another since I was there. First of all, it's impossible to describe even a ilttle all the experiences which happened me there, since the crazy american guy until the savage animals. Nevertheless I have to say that Maria and Oke are one of the best people who I have never meet. Oke was trying to make me laugh every single day and Maria simply is... kind and lovely. I don't really know what to say, so I'll say nothing. Just one advice: talk with Olov. Whatever petite sort of problem if you don't like the job, the food, if you are bored, if you need something.

My experience was very eye opening, gave me a very cool story to tell😅 my host was by far one of the best hosts I've had for any volunteering experiences, if you can drive you can use the car, if he's gone and you have to get groceries he'll supplement when he gets back, and he does his best to help the volunteers work and collaborate together, there's plenty of tasks to do so you're never bored and you can always rest when you need, and the most important thing to me was he knows how to cook! Best chicken I've ever had.😌

This volunteering is difficult to assess. Olov is approachable, kind and flexible. He offers his home as if it were yours. The work in the stables is hard but nobody forces you to do anything you don't want to do and that is very positive. The house, which was completely different from the pictures messy, the amount of objects that were there and the dirt. It is in the middle of nowhere and stuck to the road, there is not much to do around. Some of my roommates left early. Grateful to Olov for opening the doors to his house, but it was not an experience I enjoyed to the fullest.

The experience was very mixed from the beginning. The accommodation was far from clean and the kitchen was not tidy. However the rooms themselves were fine and the bathroom was ok. The work is decent and fair and also flexible so if you want to do something one day or take a break it is not an issue. The hosts were very kind, even loaning us their car so we could go see a few things nearby and offering to take me and other volunteers out to experience the Swedish social life. We even enjoyed an Easter lunch together. The town is quiet, small, and surrounded by nature.

My stay here was very good! Olov is very funny and always ready to help. I think the tidiness and cleanliness of the house could be improved, but otherwise everything was great. The work is very physical but you learn a lot there, everyone is very communicative and cares about you learning.

Olov replied

Yes there is a huge load on the house the volouteers should clean up their own mess. The house been cleaned ftom the roof to the floor many times but degrade because we do not understaind how much one person contribute to the degradation just by living in the house. It is not enough to take away your own bread crumbs each person need to do at least one hour of concentrated cleaning every week. It is in the contract 25 hours of farmwork and outside of that contribute to a zero degradation of the place where you live.

I stayed at Olov's farm for one week in december and I really enjoyed it! Olov was very welcoming and showed me around Söderhamn and the farm. He was only at the farm on the weekend but thoughout the week he was often checking in on us to see if everything was alright and when we had any problems he was always easy to reach. The working hours were flexible and all the tasks were explained well so working with the cows was really fun. Thank you so much to Olov and his family for this experiance!

Hey! This experience was my first ever volunteering experience abroad. I really appreciate Olov because he really wants you to learn new skills and is very supporting in you doing so. Also his brother Åke and Jesper, who you will work with if you decide to work with the cows, are wonderful. They are very patient with you and communicate well. Olov provided everything I needed (working clothes, shower gel, ...) and really made me feel at home. Because the house is old you will have to prepare for a lot of cleaning but I think thats just what comes with living on a farm. Thank you Olov!

The experience was excellent, the host and the people there really nice and kind. The only bad thing is that at this time of the year with the weather conditions, the farm was kind of isolated and shops closed early so there was no social life. However, I enjoyed the experience q lot!

This was an amazing experience! I got to see how the farm life is and I loved it☺️ The tasks were fun and not very difficult, they gave us good instructions beforehand and made sure we were comfortable with the work. There is a lot to clean in the house, it gets dirty very quickly, but if you work well together as a group it's not a problem at all☺️ We we're provided with food for all meals and we could choose what we wanted to eat. Olov, Åke and Maria are very nice and they make sure you have a good stay. If you want to experience farm life this is a place you absolutely should visit!

Olle was a great host and I really enjoyed my time here! The work is very flexible and you get to pick what you want to do which was nice. I recommend to anyone looking for a farm like experience.
