The Experience

During low season (May - October) I need mostly help with taking care of my 40 dogs. Means feeding, cleaning kennels, let them run on the yard and play/socialize with them. Other tasks will be building or fixing kennels and huts for the dogs, fixing different things around the yard, some renovation work of the house and accommodations, cleaning and cooking. It would be beneficial if you have some experience in building/handcraft.

Husky Dreams offers a very intense and unique experience close to nature, working daily with lots of huskies and being part of dog sledding life in Lapland. The work is physically demanding but rewarding, and I was very lucky with the volunteer group, whose support and guidance made the experience truly special. However, organization and communication can be challenging. During my stay, two volunteers and one worker were suddenly asked to leave without any warning due to “mistakes”, which felt very harsh given the level of supervision. Best suited for flexible, independent people.

Husky Dreams offers a truly unique Arctic experience: beautiful landscapes, long sunrises, northern lights, dog sledding, and working daily with around 50 dogs, each with their own personality. I learned a lot and met volunteers from many countries. However, the owner is often absent and seems to be going through personal difficulties, which currently affect organization and communication. Volunteers are sometimes asked to take on major responsibilities with limited supervision. My stay ended abruptly and was emotionally difficult. An amazing experience for flexible and independent people.

I am currently still staying at Husky dreams because I decided to extend my stay for 2 weeks! I had a great time at husky dreams these past 2,5 months! Learned a lot about sled dogs and this very unique lifestyle, I got to drive an ATV, snowmobil and sled, helped with different tasks concerning the dogs like feeding, cleaning kennels, preparing for tours/training etc. Definitely important that you are physically fit and are capable of handling strong dogs, and to ask lots of questions. So far its been a great learning experience personal as well and I can definitely recommend it :)

Thank you so much Sanne and Per for a wonderful month with 48 huskies. This is such an unforgettable experience and I'll miss sweet baby Obee a lot. Highly recommended this experience for other volunteers! The hosts are incredibly nice and welcoming. The home is cozy and lovely. And the dogs are simply adorable 💖

My stay at husky dreams during the summer was incredible. From cuddling dogs, cleaning and fixing a few things around the property. It was a good balance. Sanne was always making shure we were ok and Per is a really good cook. I already miss being surrounded with dogs all day long. I'm also grateful to Sanne who enabled me to be creative and shared her thoughts with me.
