The Experience

For the last 5 years, I've been renovating/rebuilding the castle itself. I'm now adding a 250 square meter old barn to the outbuildings. It's an old oak-tree barn from 1900. It is rebuilt, but we shall slate the roof ... then will create a wooden floor. In the mean time, we have to tile the front terrace of the castle and create a pergola. Once this will be done, we shall organise a fallen building as a "Romantic ruin".

I had a great time volunteering at the host. The work was as agreed and being outside everyday was amazing because of the beautiful landscape! Eude was a great host, he cooked the most amazing meals and made sure we were comfortable at his place :) Having the opportunity to go to Paris every weekend was so nice, the variety between the city and the countryside was incredible! This experience was one of a kind and I'm forever grateful for it :)

My experience at the host was really nice! Staying there gives you a great opportunity to explore the nature, immerse in french culture and enjoy local meals :D The work was not too hard, some tasks were more physically exhausting but you could always take breaks or do an easier side work in between, and the tasks changed almost every day so it never got boring! Eude explains everything very well and I learnt a lot of new things. The proximity to Paris is such a nice thing too and we managed to spend all our weekends there which was amazing!

My time in the host was nice. I really enjoyed the conversations and the time I spent with Eude and his friends. You are really immersed in French culture. The work was good and there are often different tasks to do. There is a volunteer car and good opportunities to explore the area. Also if you want to spend a weekend in Paris for example. You often help with cooking or preparing meals.

Staying with Eude is honestly so fun, the whole house is gorgeous and if you like art you can spend ages just walking along the corridors and looking at it. Mealtimes are super social, good for language exchange and the food is amazing and the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Eude is a great person as well as a great host, he's understanding, interesting and generous. I absolutely recommend going to stay!
