The Experience

For the last 5 years, I've been renovating/rebuilding the castle itself. I'm now adding a 250 square meter old barn to the outbuildings. It's an old oak-tree barn from 1900. It is rebuilt, but we shall slate the roof ... then will create a wooden floor. In the mean time, we have to tile the front terrace of the castle and create a pergola. Once this will be done, we shall organise a fallen building as a "Romantic ruin".

My time at Eude's place was amazing! From the beginning i felt comfortable and welcomed. I was always asked to to perform different tasks during the day/week so it wouldn't be tiring and boring to get them done which made my time fly during the 3 weeks i stayed there. I had flexibility to keep my work online and help Eude during the day. We always talked during meals. Sharing our thoughts and experiences made me eager have other experiences in the platform. I could improve several skills, including languages, plastering, gardening, etc. I would recommend staying at the host!

My stay at the host was incredible. My motivation for coming was to improve my French which I have been learning for 3 years now. I was able to speak to Eude in French and if I made any mistakes, he would correct me in French and English. The best learning in language and culture was by staying here. I was also able to meet his friends and co-workers (good opportunities for me to practice the language again). We volunteers were fed and kept well at his place. He was generous enough to have me stay at his apartment in Paris during the weekends. A 5 star rating from my side.

Transformative experience; I learned about permaculture, immersed myself in the true essence of French culture, indulged in delightful local cuisine, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Eude and his friends. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to spend time in an amazing hostel with great company.

This experience was just amazing! The house and the rooms are so comfy, Eude is super generous and a wonderful person that makes you feel easily at home. I loved all the conversations and moments that I spent with him at the house. The work is easy to do and the food is delicious. I definitely recommend this volunteering.

Our experience at the host was life changing. Eude was extremely welcoming and the castle was beautiful. We learnt so many skills, so much about French culture and many valuable life lessons. I would recommend Eude's place to anyone interested in Sustainable living; as a sustainability student the experiences I had here were invaluable. Can't wait to go back!
