The Experience

This is an historical place, famous far beyond Småland. We won it in a competition about the best project. Help us restore this beautiful farm! We have started planting a lot of organic fruit trees that will need a lot of care. There is also an amazing abandoned botanical garden which we want to bring back to life! We have big greenhouses for vegetables and buildings that need restoring. Lots to do at this wonderful place right at lake Åsnen!

The host is truly a beautiful place. the lake, flower garden and view from the yellow house are gorgeous! the rooms for the volunteers were way bigger than expected (i thought the rooms on the pictures were guest rooms) & the staff house with living space, art supplies and kitchen is very cozy. the work was comparable to any restaurant/cafe job i've had in the past (in the netherlands). the staff is really kind & involved!! i personally loved the shared lunches/dinners, my little bike rides and reading/arts & crafts with a view on the lake :)

I highly recommend working at the host! The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming and always willing to help. My tasks varied, from assisting with food preparation and chopping vegetables to doing the dishes. The kitchen team explained everything clearly and patiently. One of the best parts of the experience was having our own space as the staff (including us volunteers). It gave us the chance to really get to know each other and connect. I spent lots of time with the other volunteers- watching movies, singing karaoke, swimming in the lake and exploring the beautiful surroundings.

This experience was the best I could've asked for. This was my first time volunteering and I really enjoyed it. The work hours were exactly as previously agreed, they were respected at all times. I liked how open everyone is and how easy it was to communicate any issues or preferences, that made everyone closer to the staff and was much appreciated. The place is just beautiful and truly feels like home, and everyone there is awesome and has an interesting life story. Thanks for everything!

My time at the host was amazing!! The staff were so kind and thoughtful, always ready to help find a solution if something came up. Working hours were fully respected, which I really appreciated. Shared meals with the team and other volunteers made it easy to connect and feel at home. The rooms were cozy, and the staff quarters were perfect for relaxing, crafting, watching a movie or reading a book. There is also plenty of time to explore the beautiful area. And walking by the lake during golden hour was just my favorite thing to do! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone!

I had the best time at the host. It was my first solo travel experience and it was truly great. I felt welcome from the first day. The whole staff was really nice and patient. All of the other volunteers were so sweet. We spent most of the time together and cycled to Urshult or took a swim in the lake. I applied for the garden/ renovation work, so my tasks varied a little. We renovated and painted the little boat house by the lake but you also can expect some weeding from time to time. All in all I would definitely recommend this place, it was wonderful.
