I'm very grateful I had the oppertunity to work a month in the hostel. The island is incredibly beautiful and there's lots of nature to explore! Junya-san is a really kind host and flexible with working days. However I can't give full stars because of a few things that happened. A last-minute volunteer (V), not confirmed on WP, was shoved back on the chest, by a drunk Japanese staff member (J). Later, J blackmailed the owner, saying he'd quit unless V was removed. V, who had done nothing wrong, was forced to leave the next morning. Contact me if you'd like more details, or want to talk to V.

Thank you for your help during your stay, even though it ended earlier than planned. That period was stressful, as some staff prioritized their own needs over the comfort of guests and team harmony. I’m sorry about how things ended with the other volunteer. Still, I don’t believe he did “nothing wrong” — shared living requires mutual respect. The Japanese volunteer behaved inappropriately. His actions were unacceptable, and he has since left. I take responsibility for that environment.

It was a great time at Mikunya! The tasks are flexible and you learn a lot. I thought it was great that you even had the responsible tasks, such as reception. All in all, it's a very nice guest house, you feel very comfortable and in combination with the people you can have a great time. I really enjoyed my stay! Arigatou gozaimasu Junya-san! 🐈🙏🏽😇

As my first volunteering, the hostel was wonderful! Working with Junya san was quite enjoyable, as he tries to get to know each volunteer and tries to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. I think Junya san is a bit of an introvert, but he is quite flexible, considerate, respectful, and kind. And everyone was very nice as well :) The mountain has exceptional views, and Hiroshima isn't far from the hostel, so you can enjoy your days off in various ways! I really have nothing but good things to say of the experience at the hostel! Juyna san ありがとうございます ‼ ミ★(*・ω・)v Thanks!!★彡 I 💗 Miku 🐱

It was perfect! The house we stayed at was quite old but everyone was so welcoming it felt like a schooltrip! Junya-san was lovely and very understanding and the hours were quite flexible. The guesthouse and the island were mesmerising. I would recommend this experience to anyone!

Staying at the hostel was the best first volunteering experience I could have ever wished for. I had an absolute blast staying 5 weeks on the hostel enjoying the slow days and natural beauty of the island (especially the rainy days!!). The task were easy and not repetitive since you rotate between reception, dinner and cleaning. Junya-san is an absolute sweetheart! He really makes effort to take care of everyone equally. If you are looking for a breath of air with a touch of home, this one is the way to go! I will miss our dinners together 🥹🙏🏻🍛 Thank you so much Junya-san!

The hostel is such a beautiful island and every day there felt like I was living in a dream - whether it was raining or sunny, either way the island is like a fairy tale. Even more beautiful is Junya's the hostel that he really takes care of as well as the volunteers. What I really liked about the work here is that it's not mainly focused on cleaning, you get to do different tasks (reception/dinner), too! I'm going to miss having dinner together. 🍛

This has been one of my favourite Worldpackers experiences. Junya-san has such a lovely guesthouse and provides a very safe and welcoming work environment. the hostel itself is beautiful and has such a special atmosphere. A month here was amazing and I enjoyed every second (even the rain). The jobs vary so it's not repetitive. Every night we sat and had dinner together (curry every night if you wish!) which grew to be a lovely routine we all enjoyed. If you enjoy nature and beautiful simplicity then this is perfect for you. Thank you Junya-san I hope to return one day - perhaps for your 40th..

I had an amazing time in the hostel! Junya San is super friendly and it really felt like a home away from home!! The work is either cooking, reception or cleaning, all of which are easy and enjoyable. I had an amazing time climbing Mount Misen and exploring the island and beaches. On your days off you can go explore Hiroshima or nearby cities like Iwakuni which I recommend!! Me and Junya went out for lunch after work one day which was nice seeing the local restaurants!! Another day all the staff made Okonomiyaki together, which was great fun. Definitely recommend! Thank you Junya!!!

I had the best time in the hostel ! The work at the hostel is easy, and is either reception, dinner or cleaning. We get enough time to enjoy the island in the best way possible. Food, culture, nature... the hostel is made to be slowly enjoyed. If you're looking for a nice seaside place to feel at home and connect with the locals, the hostel is for you! Junya-san is really considerate regarding our schedule and even took a shift for me so I could visit Okunoshima. It's also really nice to help run the guesthouse with him and Miku-chan (the cat). It was a pleasure to work there!
