From day one, I felt part of a big and beautiful family. Every single person working here makes you feel welcome from the first moment, and it's impossible not to enjoy together all the activities the hostel has to offer: from movie night, to pool tournament, to pub crawl, etc Shifts are flexible, you get your first week with cleaning shift (2h) per day, and after the first week you can choose the shifts you like the most. Tasks are also quite clear and easy to get done. Special thanks to Gabs, Fraser and ALL the other volunteers who made this month so special. Love you all guys 😭

Volunteering at the hostel was honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made. I ended up staying for 5 months, and even that didn't feel long enough. From the start, I felt at home. The team is full of kind, hilarious, genuinely good people who made every day feel easy and fun. πŸ₯–πŸ₯‚

HSH is an amazing hostel and I would 100% recommend volunteering here. It is only 14 hours a week which is very little. You have some flexibility to pick other shifts to get days off, the most common shift is the 11-1 housekeeping shift. This gives you plenty of time to explore Edinburgh and it's surrounding areas. The hostel has events 6 nights of the week. There is a big number of volunteers, with a friendly and chill atmosphere, so you can get involved in the events as much or as little as you want. I loved my time here and it's why I extended to 2 months - hard to say goodbye!

Such a great time with the HSH fam, I've already booked in to come back! The hours are so good, the location is too, but nothing beats the people :)

I can not describe how much I miss this place. HSH has made my stay in Edinburgh unbelievably special. The group of volunteers feel like a big family and I have definitely made friends for life. The managers are always super nice and welcoming, which made the stay even better. The work hours are insanely fair and flexible. You are able to combine your shifts with another job if you have one. I would definitely recommend the hostel if you want to experience living in the heart of Edinburgh, meet new people and participate in the coolest events.

I would highly recommend volunteering at the hostel! I originally only planned on staying one month but decided to extend one more month! There is a large team of volunteers and the managers were very welcoming when I arrived. There are events going on almost every evening at the hostel such as quiz nights, pub crawls, Ceilidh dancing, and movie nights which are a great opportunity to hang out with the other volunteers and guests. The amount of hours you have to work is also very reasonable and leaves you with plenty of free time to explore Edinburgh and other nearby towns!

Volunteering at the hostel it's amazing! I would recommend it to anyone. After your first week of volunteering you can choose your own shifts, which is great to plan your days and time off. I've met many travelers, we're always doing something different and spending time together πŸ₯° Also only volunteering for 14 hours a week in Edinburgh it's 10/10, the exchange it's fair. Thank you very much for having me, it was a pleasure 🫢🏻

Such a special place, anyone looking to explore Edinburgh should apply here! The rota system is the best of any hostel I've volunteered at; you're able to pick shifts at any time of day which allows you to be very flexible and only 14 hours a week. The staff and other volunteers are so welcoming, with the large volunteer group size creating a very social atmosphere. The hostel generally is super sick and volunteering gives you access to the other sister hostels in Edinburgh. Very cool city too, great proximity to nature and a city with everything you need but without the intensity! <3

The hostel was my first volunteering experience and I am for sure coming back! I fell in love with Edinburgh and felt truly at home there and all thanks to the amazing atmosphere created by the people in the hostel. The workload is really good and even though the tasks are sometimes demanding you learn quickly. Sharing breakfast is such a highlight in the day and there are other activities organised by everyone. I felt most welcome and a great sense of community alla round me. Thank you for having me!
