Program Details

You will be treated like one of the family. You can stay "free" in our home, in your private bedroom, with laundry, unlimited internet, and meals supplied.
This is a help-out where you can position yourself, but we tend to foster your existing interests while teaching you some new skills at the same time. In particular, we will teach you about the equine discipline of endurance riding.
Our life revolves around our horses and traveling 🧳 to endurance events.
There may be a weekend where you may just farm/cat/horses/house-sitting. This is a quiet time centered around caring for the horses, cat, and gardens to keep everything fed and watered while we are away. However, normally you will be invited to join us on our trips away.

We begin each day with bacon, eggs, and avocado[when in season]. We follow a predominantly Paleo diet [no grains or legumes]. Just wholesome, unprocessed foods sourced from free-range, wild, or grass-fed producers. We don't eat much during the day. A piece of fruit, slice of cake, and a cuppa. Dinner is salad or veggies with meat [maybe curry, bolognese, stroganoff, chili con carne, soup]

Capable horse riders will experience Australian life in peaceful bushlands, viewing Australian wildlife such as goannas, echidnas, kookaburras, kangaroos 🦘 , koalas 🐨,
We have lots of horses 🐴 available for your adventures on our miles and miles of tracks. We have lots of new foals born each year, which we handle.

If you like cities and lots of people, then this is not for you. If you love nature and quiet, then you are in the right place!

Many of our volunteers have happily ended their time with us riding in a 40km endurance event. For most their stay at Flemingo was the highlight of their time in Australia.

We offer free transfers from coach or airport.

Activities & Shift

We are looking for a confident and capable horse rider who wants to experience our way of life and is prepared to fill in when I/we don’t have enough arms or time.
There will be usually only one volunteer at a time.
This position would suit a backpacker/volunteer who was interested in cultural exchange:- to experience life revolving around horses.
We need help on the farm with the horses, in the garden, and the home. Typically, nothing very strenuous ... just lending a hand .... opening gates so the tractor can pass through, helping to move horses, fixing fences, weed spraying, cleaning water troughs, catching and saddling horses, feeding horses and the cat, assisting with preparing the evening meal, setting the table, maybe do a load of washing and help to keep the house clean.
Most afternoons are spent with the horses:- going out for a ride (walk, trot and canter) as the sun sets viewing many Australian animals in the bushland.
You must be fit and able to ride for an hour or two each day.
Sorry - 😢 time & horses do not allow for beginner riders
