Condado Beach Hostel - Looking for Co-Hosts!

I have volunteered at 6 different hostels for a total of 9 months worth of traveling and, unfortunately, this is the first time I encountered a negative hostel experience. It all began when Charles talked badly about other hostels & even sent me screenshots of their bad reviews and asked me to volunteer a month early. Then, finding out I was going to work a total of 32 hours some weeks (including my first week), subtracting money out of my paycheck for an error I did in housekeeping (with no warning), & spamming my phone on Worldpackers, WhatsApp, & telegram at 2:00 am, very unprofessional!

We love hosting work exchangers and our co-hosts enjoy staying with us as you can see from our many reviews below. However, that was not the case with Allan, who we unfortunately had to fire, due to repeatedly poor and inconsistent performance, which negatively impacted both our guests and his fellow co-hosts.
First, we agreed to ‘rescue’ Allan from his previous work exchange, because he contacted us desperately seeking an immediate relocation to a ‘safe’ environment. Given this, we could not schedule him for the first week of his stay. Instead he agreed to work an extra 4th shift for 3 weeks to cover that first week. Secondly, we do provide some extra performance based tips for staff. However, due to Allan's poor and inconsistent work, he is correct that he was not well tipped. Instead, other staff were tipped extra to clean up and fix his work.

My experience was mostly positive! Co hosts will be your family, you will be there to support each other and the guests contributing to this home-away-from-home style hostel. You have plenty of freedom to explore beautiful PR during the week. Shift work includes breakfast, housekeeping, check ins and other special projects. It can feel like the owner is ungrateful and ignorant to the hard work performed by co hosts here, your co-host family will be your support thru this. There are many amazing people you have a chance to meet, I would recommend this as the pros outweighed the cons!

Working at the hostel was my first work exchange and it couldn't have been better! From the first day I felt welcomed and included, and after two months of living here I'd totally call it home. Charles is very friendly, professional, and flexible. Everything he said about the exchange was exactly what I got. Sometimes when the hostel gets busy multitasking can be exhausting, but having 4 days off is a GREAT balance. If you're a team player, responsible, looking for a great environment to work on while having LOTS of free time to explore La Isla del Encanto, then the hostel is for you!

The hostel was a great experience in many ways. The staff and atmosphere made it easy to click and make close relationships that extended beyond work to many fun activities together. Jobs/responsibilities include making breakfast, cleaning, work or maintenance projects, housekeeping (changing beds/cleaning bathrooms, doing laundry, checking guests in and out, selling services (rentals, etc) and using the hostel software/ 8 hour shifts. Volunteer if you are a helpful, people-person, team player, who is happy offering hospitality to guests and caring for the needs of dogs and cats.

I called Charles after an unfortunate previous worldpackers experience to see if I could work with him. He was very welcoming and graciously agreed. I am so glad I changed to this worldpackers experience because it made my time in Puerto Rico 10x better. The atmosphere, the other hostel workers and the guests, all were a 10 out of 10. I definitely recommend.

I loved my time at the hostel more than I could've imagined. I felt welcomed from the moment I arrived and there's truly such a social atmosphere and family vibes between both hostel guests and co-hosts. It's a very home-y environment and the staff dorm is spacious with lots of storage options. The work can be tough some days but Charles is super flexible and an overall great host. I'd recommend this work exchange to anyone looking to spend a decent amount of time in Puerto Rico.

My experience working at the hostel was nothing less than amazing. From the time I arrived I was welcomed with open arms that made me feel right at home. Everyone from the staff to the guest that choose to stay at the hostel truly treat each other like family. The management is very understanding and flexible.

Obrigada Charles, Ale, Virginia, Frida, luke, James, Anna, Paige, Hanna, Fabian and amizing guests.
