I was extremely disappointed with my experience. Nothing was as advertised in the job spec, and there was effectively no communication from the host. It was advertised on the job spec that I was to just do social media promotion through photography and videography. However the manager at the hostel explained this was only a small part of the job and I was expected to clean beds and help make meals for guests. The main incentives that were offered in the job spec also didn't exist. Like free hiking tours and discounted tours. I travelled 4200km to get here and even came early at their req

Our volunteer program includes social media tasks along with helping in daily operations like cleaning and guest assistance, which was clarified on arrival. We understand you expressed that you did not want to help with these tasks as you did not feel it was your role, mentioning you were well-off back home.

Coincidimos con una temporada de alta afluencia de visitantes durante las fiestas de fin de año. Los días libres dependían de la ocupación del campamento, por lo que a veces faltaba un poco de comunicación, pero esto se solucionaba fácilmente por mensaje con los dueños. Los dueños son simpáticos, nos ofrecieron una botella de espumante para Navidad. El equipo nos llevó desde Riobamba hasta el refugio al inicio del voluntariado y nos regresó al finalizarlo, lo cual fue muy práctico. Nos alojamos en una habitación privada y el paisaje del refugio es espectacular! Gracias por la oportunidad!

Pasamos Navidad y Año Nuevo en el camping Base Camp, en una época con mucha afluencia de personas. Se ayuda en cada comida armando la mesa, sirviendo y limpiando la cocina y áreas comunes. También colaboramos con fotos y videos, traducciones al inglés y armado y desarmado de carpas. Tuvimos habitación privada para los dos, con una vista increíble al volcán. El entorno es hermoso y la comida es muy rica. Los días libres funcionan cuando no hay huéspedes; como hubo mucha gente, fue necesario coordinar por mensaje. Todo se pudo conversar. Agradecemos la oportunidad de conocer este entorno. ✨️

Fue mi primer voluntariado y estoy más que feliz. La gente fue súper amable, nunca me faltó comida o apoyo y conocí a un montón de viajeros internacionales lo que me hizo practicar mi inglés. Hace entre 3°C a 10°C por lo que recomiendo llevar ropa abrigada, pero en las camas las cobijas son súper calientes por lo que no hay problema al dormir. Sin embargo tener en cuenta que la tienda más cercana queda a 40 minutos caminando por lo que si necesitan algo es mejor comprarlo antes o destinar uno de los días a bajar al pueblo.
