I stayed for 3 weeks, had 2-3 days off, for half of the time I worked 10-12 hrs each day, and the rest 4-5 hrs per day. The hours depend on how many guests and volunteers there are. The room for volunteer was decent, the food was great. The main tasks were to help serve 3 meals, clean up afterward, and translate for guests who don’t speak Spanish. The tours were fun. I learned SO much from the amazing staff, Roberto, Indi and Diana. Overall, it was a fruitful and interesting experience, the downside was the long hours. I suggest talking to Agustin in advance to see if it’s smth you’re ok with.

Lovely place to stay, room & food was great. Working with Indy & Diana in the kitchen was fab, they’re lovely people. I got to experience more tours than expected (as a translator), most of which were interesting and a good opportunity to practise Spanish.
I would only recommend Gaia if you’re confident in Spanish otherwise you can’t communicate with the kitchen staff/guide.
Main issue was the hours. I worked 6-10 hours everyday, no days off. The long-term volunteer didn’t help & it wasn’t clear why. It has potential to be a great placement but a rota is needed to protect volunteer hours.

Volunteering at Gaia Amazon ecolodge was an amazing, peaceful experience and opened my eyes to many different things. Agustin is a very nice guy and the staff are great as well.

I am very thankful for this amazing experience in the Amazon of Ecuador. The time here is and was stunning. I learned a lot, joined activities, helped wherever necessary, connected to the locals, worked digital, participated in local events, went on spontaneous trips, enjoyed the nature to the fullest and so much more.
If you are searching for an experience were you'll be part of the decision, if you are open minded and want to get in touch with the community and learn about their culture, if you love the nature and if you have a hands-on mentality this is the perfect place. Thanks Agustin!

A great experience. Time for work is spent helping with setting up meals when the lodge is busy. We were welcome to attend all activities and spanish lessons. Augustine (the owner) is a very kind guy with everyones best interst in heart. It was a pleasure to stay with him. he took us in to town for the New Year celebration which was nice to have over the Holidays away from home.
