This was my first volunteer location and it was fantastic. I felt welcome and that the expectations were well communicated. Hours were reasonable and plenty of time off was given to explore the city. The hostel is very welcoming with a great common area with lots of seating and events taking place often. It's in an awesome location, very central to the historic downtown area so there's always things to do. The only downside is that in the volunteer room, the pipes in the bathroom would smell, but it was manageable with air freshener. I had an amazing time here and would happily return again!

I stayed at Sunset Hostel and my experience was quite good overall. The volunteer rooms are separate from the hostel rooms. You'll share with 2-3 other volunteers, which is fine, and the single beds are comfortable. However, the rooms don't have windows, which can be a downside. There are three different shifts: Breakfast, Beds and PR. It's flexible, as you can swap shifts with other volunteers if needed. Breakfast is included only between 8:00 and 10:30. You can join the tours offered by the hostel, but only if there are spots available on the same day.

I had such an amazing time at LDH! You get to meet so many cool awesome people, whether it's the staff, guest or the other volunteers which really become your family. The tasks are as described, beds can be a little bit difficult and physically exerting, max number of beds is 20 so you just have to get through them. The reception shifts are light and very fun to do, you get to talk to guests as you are checking them in and meet tons of people! Lisbon the hostel became like a second home for me, I will definitely be back!

I was a volunteer at the Lisbon the hostel location. It was my first volunteering experience and I really enjoyed it. The work shifts are fine and there is a clear schedule. Only the bed shifts are quite hard. You do have a lot of free time to explore Lisbon and other places. The location of the hostel is perfect and the staff is really nice. The volunteer room was fine, but I missed some fresh air in the room. I became very close with the other volunteers and I had a great experience! I would definitely recommend it! :)

Lisbon the hostel has been my first worldpackers experience and I've loved it. The shifts were well organized and the work load it's quite balanced. The vibes are immaculate and the whole team is super welcoming and fun to hang with. The rest of the volunteers have become like family and I'm so grateful we've had the right space and atmosphere to create that special bond! I would totally suggest it for someone looking for a super social hostel positioned in the center of the city, with great people and a lot of activities!! Had the greatest month there! <3

I stayed in SDH and I recommend it 100%. I loved the staff, being social with guests, the friends I made, the events... And it's 5 mins away from the city center! Regarding work, if you come to Sunset just make sure you ask to sign the contract and set the working conditions as when there are few volunteers, you are asked to do more bed and breakfast shifts than PR, and beds is a really exhausting task (max. nº of beds should be 20). Also, our room had no window and could use more storage but you get used to it. Besides this, it was one of the best experiences ever! Thank you SDH❤️

Hello Julia,

Thank you for your feedback!
Please mind that all work conditions are set even BEFORE you come to the hostel so there is nothing in the contract that volunteers don't know. Moreover, as explained to you, the month you were here was a month where the volunteers responsible had to be away several time for professional reasons. Also, the shifts are set in the beginning of the month and volunteers have complete freedom to change with other colleagues or to talk to the responsibles, to see if there are any changes that can be made.
Nevertheless, thank you for your effort during the whole stay the whole team enjoyed working with you!

See you soon❤️

One of the best experiences I've ever had! This was my first time volunteering, and both the staff and volunteers (2-3 volunteers at Lisbon the hostel) were all really kind and make you feel at home. Both hostels are in a good location. The place is clean and comfortable, and the volunteer dorm is nice as well. Working reception was a super fun way to meet people from all over the world, and for beds I usually just did 20 per shift. I also requested that I get consecutive days off in order to travel around Portugal, and they were super accommodating. I'll miss everyone there!

This was my first experience volunteering with Worldpackers and I'm so glad it was with the hostel! I stayed in Lisbon the hostel which was in a great location and the staff there were so friendly and lovely to work with. The shifts can sometimes be tough but you get used to it the more you do it! The volunteers I met were the best people and I will miss them all! It was overall such a great experience and would definitely recommend! :)

I will really miss the staff and volunteers I've met there. Even the housekeeping team was warm and welcoming. While at first the volunteer room took me a bit aback, as I didn't expect it, it is nice enough for what we used it. The volunteers free days don't really overlap, so we found it quite difficult to go somewhere together due to the schedule. However, the work is pretty easy and comforting. Overall, I left feeling I was leaving another home thanks to the people over there. I will miss you!! Take care Diana, Albano, Pedro and Maria (also hug Ratna for me :) ) 🫂

It was my first time volunteering with worldpackers and the hostel was a great place to start! Both the Lisbon and Sunset hostels are really nice, super cozy and clean. The staff are great and the place really does feel like home by the end of your stay. There are so many events and opportunities to get to know the other volunteers and meet travelers from all over the world.
