The Experience

It's was a great experience. Moi is a really great host. Though this experience is not for everyone, it's really recommended if you wanna try a different life style, challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone. It's a one in a life time experience and it's the good place to do it.

I drove on my bike 🏍 and it's tough to get the community, there are taxis that will take you there for $15-$20. Besides that, the experience is great! Moi is awesome and his family/ friends are great as well and so helpful, my bike had one part damaged, they helped me fix it, I wouldn't have made it back without their help. The experience is not for everyone, you are literally inside the jungle, insects of all kind are everywhere. Bathroom is the jungle itself. Shower is the river, washer is the river as well, dryer is the air. There's wifi but little bit slow and limited.

This position is for bioconstruction in Arajuno, while what I ended up doing was helping out in the school in Obepare, where Moi lives (about 1h from Arajuno). Despite previously asking twice, I was told the exact location only on the day of my arrival, when it was then too late to get to Obepare and I had to organise a last minute stay in Puyo. Overall, Moi didn't seem to care much about my stay there, so much so that at some point he left for Puyo without much explanation. After two days of him being gone, and without knowing when he would be back, I then decided to cut my stay short.

I had an incredible time during my stay in Obepare. The jungle has a lot to offer if you're open to new experiences, feeling out of your comfort zone and doing the best you can independent of the circumstances. Moi is a very interesting person but was not very present during my stay. The other volunteer and I were left in the house by ourselves a few times with limited communication with the hosts. The experience with the kids at the school was rich! The teacher is a very caring person! The school and the center of the community are 35 min walking from the house! Be prepared to walk a lot:)

Moi, Fiona, and Tito are friendly hosts. the place is deep in the jungle, very unique experience. beautiful nature. and there is still some wifi available to stay connected. spider monkeys fun to play with. it was great to see the community arajuno. an intact community living with very little money. lots of food was fried with vegetable oil :( the school and arajuno is a 35 minute walk away from where moi lives. so it can be a little hard to be at school regularly. I learned some permaculture but want to learn more.
