The Experience

A big cheerful hostel in the heart of Sofia that welcomes travellers from all over the world and offers tons of extra activities. You help us at the reception and with the general maintenance of the hostel, we cover your stay in a dorm, laundry, provide basic food in the kitchen for you to cook and help you to plan your time in beautiful Bulgaria (discounts, tours, trips, mountain hikes - just ask!). Also, fast Wi-Fi! :)

Volunteering for the hostel was quite fun! The group of other volunteers were very welcoming and kind, and I instantly felt I had a network of friends. The host does a good job of ensuring you have everything you need. For those reasons I would recommend the experience. That being said, you need to be prepared for a very hands off style of management. The hosts do not live in the building and rarely visit, so the volunteers are almost always on their own. This can be good and bad, you just have to be fully competent on your own. The building is also pretty rustic, so be prepared for that.

Disclaimer : I have left before I completed my volunteers days. I want to start with the good review. Before my arrival me and the owner sylvan had video chat, after our conversation his reception manger pavel sent me instructions manual for both reception and cleaning. Sylavn let me check in at midnight although I offered to pay for my hotel for the night and come in normal hours during the day, I super thank for it. Although upon arrival I was unwelcome by other volunteers. - I got dirty bed and bedbugs for the first time in my life.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the hostel. Slavyian, Pavel and Georgi have all been very responsive and place the well-being of the volunteers as priority. It is a nice atmosphere in the hostel where volunteers build a community of their own and make plans together. Unexpected incidents did arose with some guests but nothing out of the ordinary.
