The Experience

We are a small family run hostel with 23 beds near the Baltic Sea, just north of Kiel. We do not live at the hostel ourselves so it is nice to have someone around who is there to let us know if everything is ok. You are more or less a "normal" guest who helps us a little with cleaning, gardening or welcoming other guests. Work times are flexible and there is plenty of time to explore the area by bike. The nearest beach is 2.5km away.

It was my first worldpacker experience and it was amazing. Silke is a really nice and caring host that will help you with everything you need, the room she provided was comfortable and cozy. The tasks are easy and well explained so I could spend long time to explore the beautiful surroundings fields around the hostel and the beach nearby , the supermarket is 15-20 minutes ride with bicycle which is also very convenient. Overall I strongly recommend about the experience at the hostel.

I had a great time at the hostel und the hostel! The hostel is a quiet and cozy place surrounded by nature. The closest supermarket is at a 20 minute bike ride, and so is the beach. I consider it ideal for enjoying the rural North Germany and relaxing from the noise of the city. My favorite part was getting to talk to all kinds of people that spent the night at the hostel. There were no boring days. The tasks were easy, and most of the days everything was done in less than 3 hours. Silke is an amazing host, really attentive, helpful, and friendly. I highly recommend this volunteering experience.

We loved our experience volunteering here. Silke is so lovely and friendly and very flexible and accommodating. The town is amazing to explore. It's very much a piece of the country side but by the sea. Great for unwinding and relaxing. But it has an amazing forest 15 mins on bike with a walk to explore, an awesome German fishing town an hour on bike (great weekend activity) and beautiful sea side to unwind in the evening and watch the sunset. The bedroom is also amazing! Big and has a table and chairs. I recommend this experience highly! Thank you so much Silke, from Louis and Jemima

I had a great time volunteering in the hostel. It's a chill hostel and it's very easy to find someone to have a nice chat and play something. The work was easy: clean the hostel and make the beds in the morning and later on, help with the check-ins. We had plenty of time to go the beach, study or bike around the beautiful area of Baltic sea. Silke is a great and generous host.

We truly enjoyed our time in Penauts. Silke is an amazing host, who always took care that we were feeling good and comfortable, we spend some time and meals together and it was always fun. She is very kind, caring and generous and we truly couldn't have asked for a better host. The work was easy and the hours quite flexible, leaving plenty of personal time to share with interesting people at the hostel or explore the beautiful surroundings. Our room was cozy, spacious and private. I would recommend this experience to anybody considering it. Thank you Silke !
