Help our hostel in Beppu, hot spring city!

I enjoyed Beppu City by spending time before and after my 10am till 1pm shift exploring nature and visiting nearby malls and restaurants. I would use the communal bicycles, (The bicycles are surprisingly small for someone 5'10") and had a punctured tire during my first long ride. Masa didn't hesitate to make sure I received a replacement bike so I could continue riding that day. I feel the hosts cared about my well-being and were accommodating of my requests if I asked for any additional work supplies. Room 205 needs a lot of work to be livable, but thankfully, I only stayed in it short term.

Work is easy and is only 2 hours of work with 3 days off per week. I spent a lot of time in the game room and the free the hostel is great! Location is great: it's near the train station and airport bus station, 2 department stores, beaches, tons of the hostel and restaurants nearby. A lot of establishments close by 5PM so plan accordingly. There are buses going to Yufuin and Aso Station (for Mt. Aso). Beppu is a small town but still offers a variety of activities. The hostel staff are friendly and I made good friends with co-volunteers. ✨️

Overall, an okay experience. The hosts were welcoming, the work was easy and not many hours. However, the cleanliness of the hostel was a big issue. The room we stayed in was cluttered and unclean, with the beds very uncomfortable. The flooring in our bathroom was coming loose. When we cleaned the guest rooms, we were told that the duvet is not changed for each guest and only sprayed with fabric deodorant. This is unacceptable hygiene standards and we felt uncomfortable taking part in this. If you are on a small budget and are comfortable in an environment that is unclean, then it is ok.

The hours were respected and the work was as described. The host Masatoshi-san drove us to Usa-Jingu, which was really nice! However, parts of the guesthouse are in need of renovation and I felt uncomfortable with the standard of cleanliness. Together with other worldpackers I did my best to clean beyond the minimum requirements, but getting a worldpacker to help with renovation might be good. It was nice to have a private room (with air conditioner) and the hostel water was great. Overall, I don't recommend the experience for long term stay, as Beppu just doesn't have that much to offer.

Do you want to hang out with friends from all over the world and experience local culture as well? Then Hamayu is the perfect place for you Obviously, Beppu is the famous area for the hostel. I explored lots of great onsens here, including a secret the hostel located outside in nature. Also I met nice friends and we often went out together to do something fun here And both managers, Masa and Got, are super helpful and kind. The workload is not hard, which means you can have lots of time to do whatever you want. Having private room also great too. I appreciate all the experiences while I'm here

I had a good experience with Got and Masa-san at Hamayu the hostel. Weekly hours are respected and you have a lot of free time to do what you want, although the city does not offer many options. I had a single, comfortable room, so I could enjoy my time there. I thank the other volunteers who helped make that time really enjoyable 😄

My experience at the hostel was great, the job was really easy and you have a lot of free time. It's easy to meet other travellers and/or volunteers at the hostel.Beppu is not the most beautiful city you'll ever see, but the hostel culture is great, and if you take daytrips from there you can see charming little Japanese villages around. There is free the hostel at the hostel, so I mostly used that, it was great! The room that I got was small and basic, but it was private which is usually not the case when you volunteer in Japan. Overall I had a great experience and I can truly recommend this place!

My time in the hostel was lovely. I had a fantastic experience during my stay. Both managers were helpful and kind. I really appreciate that I had a private room because most of the hosts in japan offer only shared rooms. Also the hostel was cool Because the work is just 9h/week you have a lot of time to visit everything beppu has to offer. And it was really worth it exploring this city and neighbour areas. Beautiful place, not overcrowded by tourists. I recommend visiting on your own

Beppu is a nice town at the ocean surrounded by mountains. With a lot hot the hostel in that area. You just work 9 hours a week which is really not much. So a lot of free time to look around. It's just cleaning, it's well explained and easy to follow. I think everybody can do it. The Hostel is a little bit older but the single room is nice. It's great to have a single room in Japan. The Host and my coworker were really friendly and I made good friends. I am happy that I could stay at beppu.

I loved it at Hamayu! It became my home away from home and I was really sad to leave. It was the perfect introduction to volunteering at a guest house and I wish I could have stayed longer. The local people staying there were amazing, inclusive and made it feel like home. It's also a great place to meet fellow travels. I feel like I have made friends for life and will cherish my time there. The work was easy to do and never felt like too much for the allocated time. Except for one or two moments of lack of communication/conflicting information, it was perfect. I can't recommend it enough!
