I spent 2 weeks in Hamayu Nagi and it was my first work experience! It was soo good. The managers were amazing and helpful and I made amazing friendships with my coworkers. I miss my beppu family but i'm sure anyone would love them just as much.

My experience here was amazing! I loved staying in beppu for a month and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The other workers are amazing as well and I made some great friendships. The work is easy and straightforward leaving you plenty of time to explore around.

I had a great time during my stay a this hostel! Work was super easy and you only worked a few hours a week which gives you a lot of free time to explore the town. The two managers we really nice and helpful if you had any questions:) The best part was all the new friends I got:) The other volunteer staff from around the world were so nice and we used to hang out, go out for dinner or explore the town together. Beppu is a great town if you love nature! You can do lots of hikes in the area, explore small villages around Beppu try different onsens, go fo r a bike ride or go to the beach:)

I stayed for a couple of months, and had a really good time. When I was asked for my preference of days off I asked to have multiple days in a row if possible. For the most part I was able to get this, which allowed me to visit every prefecture in Kyushu and even a couple of days in Ehime. In the kitchen I was also able to chat to travellers, including the other volunteers which there are usually about 5 of at a time. I also enjoyed taking a bath in the hostel before breakfast anytime I had work.

I really enjoyed my time at Onesenyado hamayu! I spent 3 weeks here and it was the perfect amount of time to explore what Beppu has to offer and some of Kyushu. Masatoshi and Got are both a pleasure to work with and I met some lovely people working here. I would say that because it is only 9 hours a week, it does take longer to meet people and it might seem a bit quiet in the beginning.

I enjoyed Beppu City by spending time before and after my 10am till 1pm shift exploring nature and visiting nearby malls and restaurants. I would use the communal bicycles, (The bicycles are surprisingly small for someone 5'10") and had a punctured tire during my first long ride. Masa didn't hesitate to make sure I received a replacement bike so I could continue riding that day. I feel the hosts cared about my well-being and were accommodating of my requests if I asked for any additional work supplies. Room 205 needs a lot of work to be livable, but thankfully, I only stayed in it short term.

Work is easy and is only 2 hours of work with 3 days off per week. I spent a lot of time in the game room and the free the hostel is great! Location is great: it's near the train station and airport bus station, 2 department stores, beaches, tons of the hostel and restaurants nearby. A lot of establishments close by 5PM so plan accordingly. There are buses going to Yufuin and Aso Station (for Mt. Aso). Beppu is a small town but still offers a variety of activities. The hostel staff are friendly and I made good friends with co-volunteers. ✨️

Overall, an okay experience. The hosts were welcoming, the work was easy and not many hours. However, the cleanliness of the hostel was a big issue. The room we stayed in was cluttered and unclean, with the beds very uncomfortable. The flooring in our bathroom was coming loose. When we cleaned the guest rooms, we were told that the duvet is not changed for each guest and only sprayed with fabric deodorant. This is unacceptable hygiene standards and we felt uncomfortable taking part in this. If you are on a small budget and are comfortable in an environment that is unclean, then it is ok.

The hours were respected and the work was as described. The host Masatoshi-san drove us to Usa-Jingu, which was really nice! However, parts of the guesthouse are in need of renovation and I felt uncomfortable with the standard of cleanliness. Together with other worldpackers I did my best to clean beyond the minimum requirements, but getting a worldpacker to help with renovation might be good. It was nice to have a private room (with air conditioner) and the hostel water was great. Overall, I don't recommend the experience for long term stay, as Beppu just doesn't have that much to offer.
