Language exchange with local Koreans with cozy dormitory

The conversation with students is easy and fun! You make good friendships and everyone meets up with the students outside of the school time as well! The boss “K” is really easygoing, funny and polite! Happy hour K cooks for everyone! Scarlett the new manager will solve all your questions and has great recommendations. All the volunteers living together in a dorm is fun, usually there's always someone in the living room who's open to talk :) The dorm provides unlimited ramen and rice! They also have a rack of free clothes which got me through the cold weather! Grateful for the coliving!

I loved going back here! Even after two years from my last trip, I definitely felt the same community and kindness from everyone in their own way. Kay is always making sure we can enjoy our time at the academy even off hours with a dinner or just letting us use the ps4 and switch. I also appreciate how informing Cassia was about everything, and how Scarlett would help us engage with others at the weekly Event, Happy Hour, held at the academy. Hours are reasonable and communicating and hanging out with other volunteers or students is very eye opening to experience different cultures!

The dorm is cozy and Cassia did an excellent job at informing me what tasks & roles I needed to fulfill. Easy to navigate and a great surrounding area. As for the academy, it's such an amazing experience. Meeting locals & immersing yourself into their life when possible is such an incredible and socially rewarding process. Talking, sharing, listening, interacting & just spending time was such a big thing for me. Everyone has a unique story and everyone wants to learn and grow. Such a beautiful community and I am grateful to have experienced everything.

Communication could have been clearer from the start. I was not informed before arrival that I'd be placed in the boys' dorm, nor about the 10,000-won fee or a contract that needed signing. Meetings were canceled at the last minute, and house and the coliving rules weren't explained until my fourth day, which caused confusion about expectations. Basic supplies like toilet paper and detergent were unavailable for several days, requiring me to use my own or other facilities. I also observed divisions in the apartment that made interactions uncomfortable. I cannot recommend this experience.

There were many problems. First being that even after NUMEROUS reminders, the bathroom lock for the boys room was never fixed (broken way before I got there). There was a hidden ₩10000 fee for supplies, and a contract (neither was discussed until I arrived and settled down). We went days without toilet paper or detergent in the whole living space (mind you Scarlett lives with us). Worst was the gossip/toxic environment (I couldnt go to her about this since she was a part of the clique). K (the owner) needs to find someone better to replace Scarlett as she is very disorganized and irresponsible

I volunteered for a month and here's an honest review. The work was easy, the students were lovely, and other volunteers were fun and helpful. But the schedule wasn't fair, some worked 12–16 hours while others did 20. Even with advance notice, days off weren't guaranteed. The AC was freezing in both the academy and apartment. My bed was 1 meter from AC, I got really sick because Scarlett was turning it on every night. I ended up with bronchitis, and had to go to the hospital. The apartment was okay but a bit messy, but 8 people were living there so thats okey. Students and others were amazing.

Hi Anna, thks for joining us I'm replying to this review to ensure ur false information doesn't mislead our future volunteers:) Everyone in our program does the required hours. If u had any doubts about it, u should've asked in our weekly check-up meeting. AC isn't why u got sick, cause it didn' work during the night since it's not managed by us but by the building. Perhaps the constant drinking, smoking, and clubbing was the real reason & even then we changed your schedule so u could recover.

This was such a wonderful experience! It was my first time doing a language exchange, and the 'work' didn't even feel like work because the job is just to have conversations with the students. This is a Worldpackers opportunity I would love to do again. I met so many lovely people, and Bundang is a cute area not too far from Seoul!

Magnificent experience. I was lucky to be surrounded by wonderful people throughout my adventure. The volunteer team is very well managed. The school location is a short walk from the school. And I had the chance to be totally immersed in Korean culture. I leave this place with stars in my eyes
