The Experience

Your duty is cleaning all throughout the hostel, including onsen, bathrooms, showers, guest rooms, kitchen, lounge, and other common spaces. We give you free accommodation in a mixed dormitory and daily indoor/outdoor onsen bathing. I had the best time at the hostel. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, you can really make yourself at home here, and everything is so clean. It is the most organised Worldpackers experience I've had so far! Everyone has their own tasks and then you work together to finish the group tasks, so you're able to manage your time effectively as you know what you need to do within the 4 hours. The staff show you what to do so you know what to do and how to do it. Thank you for everything, I will miss my Hakone family! I wish I could have stayed for longer, highly recommend.

This was my first volunteering experience in Worldpackers, and I'm so happy I got to live this experience with the hostel team. From the first day, I felt welcomed, they took time explaining the tasks I was meant to do and communication was clear from the start. Also, we finished early most of the time which allowed me to explore and do other activities. I really enjoyed the interactions I had with the team, the other volunteers and the guests! It was a true cultural exchange, which was one of the things i was looking forward to before coming here :) Muchas gracias! ありがとうございます! -Meli

I couldn't have asked for a better first experience in Japan!! The whole team was super welcoming and so nice at all times and happy to help if I had questions. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and I felt very safe. The work was easy and we were done early most of the time, which made it possible to do small day trips and exploring every day. Thank you for the great time. I really enjoyed my stay and would 100% recommend it to other Worldpackers! If I get the chance to, I'll stop by again and say hello :)

I really liked my time in Hakone. Yayoi-san and the whole team were very kind and always friendly. The hostel itself was also a place that felt very cozy and home-like. There were many international guests and it was easy to connect with them. The working time was said to be 4 hours per day, but we usually finished earlier. The tasks were easy and always manageable. Hakone itself was beautiful too, right in the middle of nature, but as other reviews already said, there wasn't that much to do, so be prepared for that. All in all it was a great learning experience and i felt truly welcomed:)

Great and peaceful experience in the hostel. Yayoi-San sure knows how to welcome and manage new volunteers people! She was great, open to talk and respectful. The work hours are respected (3,5 hours average per day). The facility with the kitchen, onsens, common area and dorms are confortable and spacious. Most of the staff team are friendly. Konbinis around and closest supermarket is 20 min away biking (free e-bike for staff). Lot of nature to explore, hikes, temples, however the area can be quickly explored so bring anything to keep yourself busy!
