My time at the shelterwas incredible! You will truly fall in love with each dog that is sheltered here! I teared up a little saying my farewells to all the lovely dogs and puppies! Meeting all the wonderful travellers was a true blessing! And I will miss Urubamba and the nature that surrounds the facility! Emily is truly an admirable host and leader. Work, scheduling, and everything in between is flexible, and the team is willing to meet your needs. Just come prepared to give lots of love to the dogs and with lots of layers because it gets really cold at night!

We felt welcome from the moment we met Emily and the other volunteers. Not only are there old, abandoned or abused dogs looking for a second (or first) chance at a loving home, there are puppies as well as special needs dogs and cats and that need lots of love and attention. If you adore animals you'll have plenty of them to share your love with. The atmosphere's relaxed but with that many animals (and people) there's never a shortage of things to be cleaned, fed, washed, walked, put away, organized, picked up, loved, petted or played with. If you cant go, consider donating for vet services.

James was an awesome volunteer! He jumped right in, helped wherever needed and was great with the animals. He brought a really positive vibe and worked hard to ensure all the daily tasks were completed. His love for the dogs was obvious, and we really appreciated having him around. He’s welcome back anytime!

Our experience was great! All the animals are adorable and we really felt useful during our stay, especially with the dogs in wheelchairs. Emily has always been accommodating with us, she may seem a little overwhelmed but gives her best to help dogs in the area, which is very touching. We had a lot of free time to enjoy the Sacred Valley. The house and the land are amazing! however be carefull if you're sensitive to the dust bc a dozen dogs live here which makes cleanliness complicated. If we return to Peru we will not hesitate to come back. Good luck bc you'll fall love w/ dogs. 🧑

It was an incredible experience. The dogs really grew on me ans I spent most of my time cuddling them (best cuddle buddies!!) With the other volunteers we often went to the brewery or breakfast together which was a nice change of scenery. Coordinating day trips with Emily was super easy and she was very understanding, even helped planning. Overall a great way to spent your days, however, should you be sensitive to noise or need a clean space this might not be for you since it can be quite dirty in the house due to the dogs

You are going to fall in love with the shelterdogs! Each of them is special, and if you're going to stay long enough you'll be lucky to get really closed to them. Emily will kindly and generously receive you in her home, with her two kids and all the dogs. She will let you feel at home and involved in all the daily activities. You are going to be part of a great family and to know a little piece of Peru in a special and truly way. Lastly, the shelter is located in an incredible position in which you can enjoy the Sacred Valley!

It was a great experience in a magnificent setting. Emily is genuinely motivated by the idea of giving her dogs a second chance and has lots of stories to tell about each of them. You just have to be prepared to live with dogs all the time. Thank you for this experience. πŸ™πŸΌ

My time at the shelterwas wonderful. Emily is extremely hospitable, approachable, and friendly. I instantly felt at home the first day I got there. Also, after a few weeks you get really close to the pups and are invested in their wellbeing. The setting is also terrific (nested between two giant mountains, easy access to a local fishery and hiking trails). Lastly, it was a great way to meet people from all around the world! 10/10

I instantly felt welcome and at home with Emily and the family. I can't speak highly enough of the care and love that Emily has for the project. I spent my days helping with general upkeep of the property (scoopin poop) and doggy wellbeing. I was able to learn about caring for dogs with special needs and fell in love with the place and daily routine. The dogs are amazing little characters, the work is relaxed and fair and it was an honour to be a part of this project. You can play to your strengths with what you choose to help with during the days. I'll be back πŸ•πŸŒπŸ’›

We really enjoyed our time volunteering at Colitas Con Canas and spending time caring for the dogs and cats. Emily welcomed us into her home and made sure we were having a good experience throughout including enjoying the local area beyond our voluntary work. She is passionate about looking after the vulnerable animals she rescues and makes sure they're happy and healthy. We loved being part of the project and there was lots of opportunity beyond the daily jobs to play with the animals. We especially loved walking the dogs in the amazing surroundings of the Sacred Valley!
